This. To be honest, reading the headlines, I thought it was worse than it actually was.

But I expected better from Benn just because he's a captain, it's pretty much par for the course for Seguin at this point.

That's a good one.

Is that as strange as people who have the same haircut for 30 years? I'm not sure why that would be considered weird, maybe they're just really boring/old-fashioned/don't care that much about their looks.

he didn't say anything

So who's standards are we supposed to operate by? Yours? Or the most sensitive person we can find?
Why don't you just worry about yourself instead of looking to conform everyone to your standard of thinking/acting?

Here is how a classy Sedin responds to immature unprofessional punks...

Henrik on Seguin/Benn comments: "I think it says more about them than it does about us" Hear the full interview tonight at 9:35 on @TSN1040
Disturbing comment from a disturbing player.

Holy crap people get offended so easily. These are professional athletes. I hate to break it to you, but most of them aren't classy. Class is not necessary in sports.
Maybe not, but it goes a long way. I'd much rather have a captain with the attitude/class of Henrik than Jamie Benn.

I am a Vancouver fan who isn't going to lose any sleep over the comments themselves.

It really just reflects poorly on Seguin and Benn. Seguin no surprise...but mostly disappointed in a BC boy Benn, who is supposed to be representing his sport, his team, and himself as a captain and leader. He needs to be smarter and more professional.

Curious to know how many people brushing this off as nothing thought Evander Kane showing up to a meeting in a track suit was unprofessional.

I'm also curious about that, for the record I think both of these events are unprofessional.

Yeah, but do you realize the insanity in suggesting it can't even be brought up as a topic in a humorous conversation?

Of course it can, but by the radio hosts - who're trying to bait them into making the show more interesting. I mean, as an individual, I'm free to have all kinds of dumb insensitive opinions, but when I'm representing my work, I've got to be more professional.

Doesn't matter where Seguin and Benn are from. The fact is they are now placating to their current fans (all 50 of them or so) in Texas...

You have to remember, even though you and I live in the 21st century where LGBT people have as much rights as my wife and me, these guys play in a place where gay people are not given a lot of those rights in the name of fairy tales and cults.

You're talking about backwoods, rural people from the South. This is a pretty constant misinterpretation from Canadians and people in the northern United States

Being from Massachusetts (or 'the North'), the handful of people I met from Texas were all from the city or close to it, were very open-minded, and you couldn't tell by their accents they were even from there.

I guess what I'm saying is - you're talking about people that most likely aren't going to hockey games and you're laying down a pretty massive stereotype. Not that there isn't a bit of truth to it, but it's far less than you're implying.

The question is, is why? It's not like the Canucks play Dallas anytime in the near future. Or have some sort of rivalry with Dallas...so why are these two even discussing it? Let alone trash talking them? All it does is make them look like immature idiots.

Agreed. Very much with you on that opinion.

This now is the front runner for most idiotic post of all time.

Keep going on about Benn's "class" when you say that..

Seguin and Benn showing they're about as funny as a couple of youtube trolls. If Seguin was smart he'd just stay away from the media.

We're talking about a radio interview. Not a game, not a game, not a game. A radio interview. There is absolutely no reason for them to take random shots at the Sedins in this situation.

Also, it is not just some Canucks fans defending them, but keep making things up if it makes you feel better.

The reason was because the radio hosts made a joke so they went along with it

There is a time and place for trash talk, during a radio broadcast is not it. Besides, this wasn't even trash talk, it was an immature joke.

So you are perfectly fine with these guys saying this stuff on the ice but not over a radio interview? What in the flying **** is the difference? If the words were so hurtful they shouldn't be saying them at all! There really is nothing different about saying it on the ice and saying it over the radio. The fact you are rationalizing it because it is said on the ice means that this really isn't that big of a deal.

I agree trash talk is trash talk. Did Brian Trottier trash talk on radio, or was it on ice?

Was he original? or was he too dumb to think of something on his own and recycled what was said years before?

This isn't about the Sedins.... they've taken such talk before and they'll hear it again... I'm sure they hear stuff on the ice all the time - of course they aren't childish enough to make that public after a game, and especially on a radio talk show. But if they did, I'm sure they would have enough intelligence to come up with something new on their own, instead of repeating what was said before and thinking that's funny.

This is about Seguin and Benn, and you'd think that if they were joking and looking to trash talk, they'd a) do it on the ice, and b) come up with something new. Of course asking immature, stupid kids to think like adults isn't always fair to the immature, stupid kids.

Youtube "Brian Bellows trash talk" and you'll see what I mean. It's typical hockey banter. Very misogynistic and very homophobic. I couldn't even imagine the outrage if that came out today.

Again, the fact that you are rationalizing these comments if they were to have occurred on the ice means that this really is no big deal and people are just causing commotion for the sake of causing commotion.

I understand that and I have agreed with it saying that doing it over the radio was not the smartest thing to do.

I just think, before people react, they should have a little perspective. People finding it funny does not making them homophobic. People finding it not funny does not make them humorless. I will apologize for comments I made earlier in the thread that could have implied the latter.

At this point, I'm sick of admitting that I found it "snicker-worthy" and being told I'm a homophobe in return, which is laughable to anyone who actually knows me.

Make a comment on Subban's race then. I dare any NHL player.

So?

Latin American baseball players were called racist names, as were black athletes for many years.

If you think that is acceptable behaviour, good for you.

Ahhh the typical, "but If I did this at my work" remark. The NHL is nothing like your work. If you got into a fight with someone at your work you would be charged, if you crosschecked someone with a hole puncher you would be fired, hell, if you brought a hockey stick to your place of work and proceeded to play hockey you would probably be fired as well. Being an NHL player is not in one bit comparable to your job.

These guys are human too. They should have the right to live, party and make jokes.

Whooooooooo caresssssssssssss????????

And is anything they said not true? Nope. Get a life, everyone.

lol at saying their comments are homophobic. Pretty sure they're incestuophobic (not a word?). Hey guys, can't go around making fun of people committing incest. Don't want to hurt those people's feelings for sure.

*facepalm*

It's entirely comparable in that when I go out and promote myself as a representative of the company/organisation.

The rest of it that's not comparable is the job scope.
