I honestly think if you gave almost any other gm the team that dubas inherited, they would have at least one series win by now.

I've seen the dubas fan boys say that trading Kadri for barrie and kerfoot was a huge win for us.

They said keeping sparks over mcbackup was smart.

I constantly hear how good at drafting kyle is and yet we've had almost none of his picks turn into anything meaningful.

It's almost like dubas gets credit for things he doesn't deserve and then doesn't get blamed for things he deserves.

The media in Toronto loves dubas. He's treated like a genius despite having zero playoff success.

The NHL is a results oriented business. You don't get brownie points for trying hard or looking good.

Nah, maybe a scout but that's it.

You really think another franchise is going to look at the team dubas inherited, see that he has zero success after 4 years and want to give him the keys to their team?
That’s the thing most dubie supporters just fail to see. Dubas didn’t build this team to some 105 point regular season juggernaut. He inherited the 4 best players in Matthews, marner, nylander and Reilly. All dubas has done was give marner and matthews max dollars on 5/6 yr deals, terrible negotiating. The 3 best players he brought in were taveras, muzzin and Brodie. Collectively those 3 haven’t blown my socks off. traded away 1sts like candy for injured foligno LOL. This management group has been a disaster. hurricane dubie! I do think dubas gets hired again but it sure as hell won’t be as a GM….No GM has inherited so much talent and had it fizzle out time over time like dubas.

LOL fizzled out. You make sound like the team is in a downhill spiral with a dismal future. I can only assume you'd be shocked to learn that other than Colorado, no team is given a better chance then the Leafs at winning the cup this season. Here's a link, see for yourself if you don't believe me. And these are people with real money to back their opinions (and lots of it), not just random pissed off fans, anonymously blowing smoke on the internet.

Not to ignore all the 1st round exits, we are all painfully aware of how embarrassing this teams playoff results have been. But constantly crying gloom and doom as if there was nothing at all positive in the teams situation is just ignorant.

Uh it is in a downward spiral though. No guarantees matthews resigns, same with nylander. Taveras and muzzin are not getting younger. The goaltending is a continued carousel of misfits. You have a rookie coach np who has lost to the worse playoff seeded teams in Columbus and Montreal in back to back years. Yeah, your right, good times ahead!

Fascinating stuff, here's my rebuttal: Favored to win the East and 2nd cup favorite as of today.

If that's what you call a downward spiral ...

Realistically, if Dubas is on the market it's because the leafs disappointed in the playoffs again. Based on his tenure here:

Teams that won't be after him: Strong teams that need to take the next step to win. Why not: that's the one thing he hasn't shown an ability to do, get the job done in the red zone

Teams that will be after him: Every other team that wants to invest in building a strong, professional organization from top to bottom, that seeks to build a sustainable program through drafting, player development, recruitment, and identifying quality UFA's.

Dubas has done a pretty good job building a top notch organization. That said, the second part of his job is bringing in a cup. If he can't bring the team to compete for that, he might not have the complete set of skills that the team needs. He is better suited to elevating another dysfunctional organization into the modern age. This is fine. There are GM's out there who are unable to build back-office depth but can get a team close to the finishing line to the finishing line.
2 tests he must succeed in...
1. Bring the team to the conference finals at a minimum.
2. Don't pull an all-in move like Florida and give away 3 years of 1st round picks...just to fail

1. Has not come close
2. Did not go all in to the extent the Panthers did, but he tried and failed the year they won the North.

Dubas has built an excellent team. One who has not won a playoff round though. That is the problem. The team has to win in the playoffs.

Apparently the players doesn't have to win though. There's a bunch of posters sending the message that they can just lose every year and it doesn't matter because ... everything is Dubas' fault. Isn't life grand! :)

Exciting season. Either we make the 2nd round of the playoffs or Dubby and Co. are gone and the doomers on this forum have to find another topic to obsess over. I'm just excited for something new, either way.

It feels like you've posted this a thousand times already. Change a word here and there but overall, same old, same old. Don't you ever get tired? Are you going to post this same drivel another thousand times before we hit the halfway mark of the season?

Just curious ...
Yeah, his making this board exhausting to read and I'd think in some board moderators would interfere. Though one of our moderators is master of repetition.

I'm not saying that they should change their opinion or that they're wrong, but this way to have a conversation is boresome at best and something way worse when at their worst.

Some people are here like "No one agrees that our goaltending is a gamble, but it is" or "Dubas supporters won't admit that he is on hot seat". Like no disagrees, our goaltending is a gamble and GM is always on the hot seat. This season way worse than ever and our goaltending is mystery at the moment.

Problem lies there where people can't discuss from any other POV, than their own and repeate their message trough and trough. Like whole summer here.

Dubas is on hot seat without contract, but let's play hockey first and worry about that thing later.

seriously.

the only time a GM isn't on the hotseat is when his team isn't trying to be competitive.

Haha yeah, there is that and you're right, this place has been mostly tedious repetition and I'm so sick of it. Nothing to do but hope things get better when the games start. We'll see.

seriously.

There you said it and this no contract situation underlines it perfectly, so I don't think why there is this echo about it all the time.

I trust gamblers a lot they put their own money in. We're in the interesting spot even with some question marks. Like there is a team that is so perfectly built that there isn't some sort of gamble somewhere. That is the parity from salary cup. Avalanche had gamble on their goaltending last season and lost tons of assets. It paid king's ransom, but all the other teams lost. 31 out 32.

Which players on this team have to actually win though? The depth players? Kerfoot? And what happens if it doesn’t get done?

Apparently none of them have to win, every time we lose a playoff series it's apparently the fault of our GM. Not sure if he's poisoning the players somehow before crucial games or he has some other mysterious methods of sabotaging his own team, but I'm told Dubas is always to blame for everything.

What happens when we don't win is nothing it seems. The players eventually move on and win cups elsewhere and we keep losing no matter who our players are.

Not sure if I'm doing this right, just going by what I'm told here every day for the last several months. Dubas is the problem, just fire him and success is right around the corner. :)

I love how all players getting drooled over challening for spots are his
