I assume they thought he'd try to get another job after being fired so would only be on the hook for a partial tab.

The absolute media tear down via leaks from the organization to justify the move didn't really help with this plan however.
Yeah it's not too shocking that Babcock didn't get hired after his time in Toronto. If that's true it's kind of bad foresight on behalf of Toronto's upper management.

Have the feeling that this is more out for blood than a logical firing.

This is the best Leaf team we have had in a long long time.

As CJ said, Dubas would be hired very quickly by another team. Would hate to lose him
The best team but no success. If they lose first round again it will be 7 years in a row. Major changes will have to be made.

Please!?
Wasting years with this rookie who doesn't understand playoff hockey, or what makes a good coach.
This year's team - not sure how you can look at it and see progress.

I think it's probably true he'd most likely be a solid AGM.

I do think that the Toronto media over hypes his ability a bit because they like him and he feeds them scraps however

If you think about it, all GM's jobs are on the line.

What is at risk is being unpaid next year for Kyle.

However, I doubt he'd be out of work long at all if he isn't re-signed.

I blame shanahan for this. Shanahan should have had the foresight that the way both Babcock and Dubas see the game is completely different. He forced to make it work.

Then he chose a side (Dubas); and then Dubas basically hired mostly from his past working relationships in Soo (Head Coach, Scouting, etc...)

For good or for bad IMO the damage done by Dubas whether he tries to fix it or someone else comes in and tries to fix it will take time. It won't be immediate. JT contract will be on the cap for some time with Matthews and Willy up for new contracts before JT's contract expires and team IMO does not have enough quality young blood to replace Willy; and we also don't have decent goalie in the system who can come up.

We are basically hopeing Lily or Sandin (if he re-signs) becomes that solid top4.

Meanwhile quality depth is also severely lacking to compete in the playoffs. It is going to be a while.... I guess....

As a GM you also need to look at your coaches style and give him the best players that may fit a combination of both your philosophies to ultimately be successful.

Him doing stuff like getting rid of our back up goalie for scrubs ( not fixed until Jack) while babs was basically begging for a goalie and somewhat undermining him by making him go fly out to Arizona to appease Matthews didn't help either.

He's made changes over time but it was 100% a two way street during that time in terms of ineffectiveness

Get a grip. We have a young elite core just hitting their prime and team is currently the 2nd cup favourite after the defending champs. Almost every team in the league would gladly trade places with us and be delighted to have these "problems" to "fix".

Based on results and the prospect pool he should have been fired long ago. What a naive child.

Top-5 record in the league since Dubas took over.

Drafting so far conpared to other top 10 teams last year:

What people dont understand is that majority of the nhl gm's are boneheads and not very good at their jobs. Dubas is above average even though he gets shitted on in this market. He will get scooped up in no time if we dont bring him back next season.

Meh. Leafs core will attract all the bright minds to apply for the job faster than another team will scoop Dubas. Dont fall for the fear media is stirring

I would not be surprised if Shanahan already has his next dream team ensemble in mind in the event Dubas stumbles again. He doesn't strike me as a guy who fires people without already being one step ahead.

*not extend, fire, same thing.

I do think a fair critique of how Shanny went about building his front office was too focused on just adding the pieces he wanted at the time and not thinking about his subordinates would get along. Like locking a big name coach up to a massive long term deal BEFORE he had selected his long term GM.

Likely would have been smarter to get a stopgap coach for that period as he did with the GM role

Thank God! Now that you told me that, I now have nothing to be concerned about. Your response to me was filled with insightful analysis that I had no idea about.
You say this as if your initial response to me describing somebody unlike anyone on our team was "insightful analysis" or relevant at all.

I can't imagine another franchise will give dubas a 105 point team with a matthews, marner and a Nylander level talents.

Even with that kind of awesome start, dubas has zero playoff series wins after 4 years.

He may be hired as a scout but even that I have my doubts about.

What do you call inheriting a 105 point team with elite, young talent and loads of cap space but have exactly zero series wins after 4 years of being gm?

I'd say that gm isn't very good at their job.

Also, this market praises dubas despite his record. The fact you think he gets "shi**ed" on shows your bias.

There are a lot of people in the same boat. No worries.

Nah, if he doesn't get extended, gets fired, quits or leaves as a free agent, he will be an NHL GM.

An incomplete picture.

Simplistic, to put it mildly. Perhaps myopic is a better word.

If praise is the only thing you've noticed, then you haven't been paying attention.
