Vachon, 264th
Price, 592nd

.. um,.. yeah.

But how will that go?

Both are... a bit... overvalued imo. No hate here. Just love for a half dozen undrafted greats!

Overvalued at 592? He has won at every level other than a Cup. I understand you are talking in a career context vs his own era, but still.

Also, he's the first goalie - or at least the best to my mind - to use the recovery butterfly style, where he is down and out on his knees but is able to push laterally to make a save rather than diving head first.

He never really had a chance to be at his best and have a half decent team in front of him in the playoffs. The Ranger conf finals was the closest before Kreider injured him. They played well in 2011, but he was a bit young. Lately they haven't been able to find a decent backup, so he's played by far the most games in the last several years and is just plain exhausted. His numbers are still fine, but they would be a LOT better under different circumstances.

Baltimore selects Gennady Tsygankov, the two-time Soviet all star (1971, 1973) who spent the Summit Series in a heralded defensive role, having come from Tarasov's system in which he was the defensive lynchpin of the torpedo attack. He went on to become part of the legendary 3-on-5 penalty kill unit against the mighty Czechoslovakians at the 1976 Olympics, and was the first pairing partner of Fetisov on the national team.

He was one of the guys I was looking at when I picked McDonagh. Tsygankov played the right side unfortunately so I couldn't take him to play LD.

Good pick.

The Cougars will complete their 3rd line by adding a guy who brings leadership and a good defensive game, but most importantly, he will fit in perfectly on a Tommy Gorman coached heavy forechecking team...

Chicago selects, Brenden Morrow, LW

NJ Devils pick HHOFer Alec Connell, G as insurance in case Lehman has a hiccup in the (Cup finals).

Connell was fantastic in winning both the 1927 and 1935 Cups, and his work got him awarded a retroactive Conn Smythe by the SIHR/HHOF study group for 1927

He's also #1 all-time in lowest career regular season GAA, which is of course largely a product of era.

Radz take Bengt Ake Gustafsson

(...)

Left the NHL for Sweden/Europe at the end of the decade even though he likely had several good years left. Gustafsson was actually in discussion with the Wings in the early nineties to come back, and he'd have been a great fit there with more talent to work with than Washington, but family comes first of course.

He also had an offer by the Boston Bruins in the early 1990s, so he definitely could have kept playing in the NHL respectively returned if he wanted to.

Skates pick Kent Nilsson and Pat Quinn

Though some of my favorite players are the typical hard working superstars, I personally was and am always lazy when it comes to things that aren't that important (like hockey growing up to the dismay of many and now at work), and so I love lazy players as well. Nilsson is a true gem, unbelievably talented but lazy by his own admission (unlike many players who get stigmatized as lazy though the issue is something else).

He's the perfect spare forward on the Skates, as he can take the position of any of the three centers without any issue, and he can play wing too. Being a spare forward seems perfect for Nilsson as well, as of course he can play on any of the lines and dominate, but he probably doesn't want to (he left the NHL partly because the season and grind was too long, he wasn't wrong, even as a fan).

Quinn fits the team and the team fits Quinn.

Connell helped ensure my MLD championship. Obviously I think this is a very solid pick. :D

I had a good regular season goalie but took Connell for the playoffs and it was obviously the right call.

Connell had a major issue if I remember - a drinking problem? I almost took him over Price because of his playoff record. I was secretly hoping to get both - which could have been a great duo. Price was ok to backing up Halak back in the day lol, so if I have another goalie who has a playoff resume it can work. If Price isn't playing well come playoff time (unlikely), I can put the playoff goalie in.

Are you confusing Connell with Clint Benedict? I never heard Connell had a drinking problem too.

Give me a bit for my next pick.
