Hopefully Macho Man manages to get in for his pick soon, but I won’t delay mine any further. It’ll be Bobby Smith.

The main issue is only 5 years of relevance
The significance of those years are quite limited:
  • Only one great regular season (8th in assists).
  • Only one great playoffs (led with 10 even strength goals).
That's it.

Only recency bias makes it seem more impressive than several much more deserving centers to come!

Chicago selects John Vanbiesbrouck, G

He was the other guy I was talking about with Joseph, very technically sound goalie who did well for defensive system teams. He’s one of the goalies I’m most sure would excel today with all the different techniques out there now. Looks like I waited too long for him. Nice pick.

Oh well, the beauty about goalies is there’s always another guy basically as good around.

We had Cujo and Beezer on our Baltimore longlist for a long time to backup Billy Smith and play 30-40 regular season starts. We went with Cujo. Could have gone either way.

I like Beezer's consistency...7 seasons with a notable Vezina finish (1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 6, 7) + 2 other seasons with minor votes. He doesn't have a Cup win (there's not anyone left who has both a Vezina record like the above and a Cup), but he does have the 96' run to the Finals where he was easily the best player on his team as well as a run to the Conf Finals in 86' where his team finished 4th in their division in the regular season and took down the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the league (Philly + Wash) before falling to Montreal.

That Finals run really solidified Beezer's worth as an all-time great compared to his Rangers days, where he competed for top billing.
