Why is this being announced as if it's some kind of crazy event to celebrate? Haha.

Because it's a rare opportunity to get a credible opinion on every team without any reputational bias.

Besides, the return of TheDevilMadeMe alone is to be celebrated.

No question, I appreciate TDMM coming back. It's just the way seventies posted it that I found a little amusing.. haha.

Good to see the Devil Made Me back. His input is something I always value.

Oh and with broad's pick of Harry westwick the draft is finished. Good job by all GM's this year, going to be interesting to see who wins it all. Good luck everyone.

Hey seventies...can I put in a request for one more player to add to your ESVsX chart? Dave Taylor. Wanted to review mark's team, but realized we didn't have numbers for him. Thanks.

Are we doing that best steal, worst reach, best line, worst line, biggest blunder stuff? I thought that was interesting and worth doing.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but for those still doing bios or looking to add to existing bios, NHL.com's section on the 100 Greatest Players is actually a pretty good source. The mini-articles on each player contain a lot of quotes straight from the mouths of players and coaches.

2nd bio of the year is done, and I really didn't think it could be longer than the Lafleur bio, but it is. And it was not so close to the limit that it could be trimmed... it had to be two parts. The best goaltender of all-time, Patrick Roy.

Just as I remember his career, Roy's competitiveness, focus and desire to win are most frequently cited. More than almost anyone, he's that guy who had "it" - it was called a lot of things: confidence, bravado, arrogance, cockiness, gall, aura, the zone, je ne sais quoi, mystique, mojo.

It's odd how much contradiction there was in his career about other things, though. It's really true that he had his share of critics who never really believed in him until after the 1996 Cup. Even after 1993 you's see comments like perhaps he didn’t steal any games in the playoffs, but he didn’t lose any.

But yeah, as I was saying, all kinds of contradictions. No one could agree what made him great. Was he consistent or inconsistent? Was he aloof or extremely dedicated? Was he technically sound or make-it-up-as-you-go? Was he butterfly or a hybrid standup? Did he have a good glove hand or a bad one? Was he good in the playoffs or lacking? (no seriously, it was said right until 1993).

Hope anyone who takes the time to read it enjoys it. This one was a blast to do. A player I took far too long to appreciate (hated him until 1997 or so) but by grade 11 I was writing essays in english class about him.

By the way, in case anyone is wondering, no, not all my bios are going to be as long as the Lafleur and Roy bios, and no, I won't be doing these till June.

In fact, 23% of my work is already done. I have 1,165 pictures taken from books, scouting reports, and THN issues, and the Lafleur and Roy bios accounted for 265 of those. That means that on average, each bio will only be about 30% as long as those ones were. Doug Gilmour will be the only other epic bio, and by the time I'm done that one (my 5th). I'm 43% done and then I'll really be motoring.

Maybe now's a good time to share how I transcribe my bios, in case you don't know. I still type them. For a while I was using a voice to text program, but it frustrates me too often so I trust my hands better. I begin by scouring all my sources for passages, and when I find one, I take a picture with my phone. I collect these pictures in a big folder and sort them by player so that I can see all of them consecutively as I start transcribing.

I just open each picture one by one, and put it up on the screen, and start going. it's so much easier than having to look down at a book and back up at the screen over and over again. I recommend anyone does it this way. We all have phones with 13+MP cameras so anyone can do it. (I don't even type properly, I use a "hybrid hunt and peck" but find keys by memory, so my eyes rarely leave the screen. I type 87 WPM the wrong way, in case you're wondering, ha ha ha)

as a look ahead, I can tell you that the bios I look forward to the most are, by far, Phil Goyette and Al Arbour the player. The stuff I found on them is just outstanding and I can't wait to show you.

.... TheDevilMadeMe is returning to the board very soon, and has not even peeked at this year's ATD. He's going to vote on the standings and he's going to do it with absolutely no knowledge of which GMs are in the draft or which teams they own.
Regina Pats :sarcasm: Gee, he'll have no idea who's GMing this team!
