What if there was a way to say..

OK, Jimmy Thomson had x amount of non-peak years, and if you count them together, it should count for an extra Norris trophy, or something. Would it be possible to come up with a system that allows for that?

For me personally, non-peak years.. just don't do anything for me, really. In an ALL-TIME draft, where we consider the BEST OF ALL-TIME, I don't consider years that do nothing except add extra games played to a player all that meaningful.. not at this level.
His peak yrs were noted by Stanley cup wins

Am I crazy, or has he been a better all-around player day in day out, than Burns, Subban and Letang? Whole careers considered.
.

His Norris/AST record is quite the anomaly.

2012 - 2nd AST, 4th Norris
2013 - 12 AST, 14 Norris
2014 - 2nd AST, 5 Norris
2015 - 22 Norris, 15 AST
2016 - 21 AST

I am a huge Pietrangelo fan and its weird, a lot of people still consider him a top 10 defenceman despite his lack of Norris recognition the last couple years. Which i haven't understood, given he still plays at an elite level.

Kessel such an idiot

He is onee leaf that should never ever be picked in the atd

A awkward flake who got chased out of Boston and Toronto

2 yrs in Pittsburgh shouldn't erase whe he didn't do in the mecca of hockey
All he did was lead your team in scoring every year, and I don't know what else you want from a winger. You'll never find any of his centers in the ATD.

A bunch of skillful puck-movers on the Amarillo blue line, so I'll add some bulk:

From Sault Ste Marie, Michigan ... Taffy Abel

And he was more important to those cup wins than I reckon Thomson was for his.. in an era where it was much harder to win the cup (30 teams vs. 6).

A #1 dman is important on any stanly6 cup winning team. The era was different . Most players on those teams faught in the war. Thomson was as important as apps kennedy and broda

As is Doughty alongside Kopitar and quick

He was known as a cancer on the team.
He will Def hurt any team In the atd who drafts him.

Based on what, exactly? We do know is that he was snippy with the media (along with everyone else on the team) and offered pretty well nothing in the way of toughness or defensive help for his teammates on the ice. It was also pretty well documented that he was extremely close friends with his linemate who still wears a letter for the team. It was also quite visible on the ice that he took a lot of joy from team successes when they happened, but also seemed to deflate badly - along with everyone else - when things didn't go well. All in all, he looked like a very talented follower in a group with very little leadership. This jibes with his experience in Pittsburgh - when Sidney Crosby is the big man in town, you don't necessarily have to say the right things, look your best every single day, do anything besides play your part on the team, to not attract negative attention.

Every ATD team has better leadership than Toronto had at the time. Every ATD team has at least comparable leadership to what Pittsburgh has now.

I was looking at him the last 2 rounds. I wanted my 7th defensemen to be a good puck mover and be able to provide some offensive spark if need be and he seemed like the best option available
TBO, if you're looking for this, there is a better option available.

He couldn't talk in the rooom. He's awkward on talking.
It's well known .

I would have to say leaders in the atd should be equalled to all great championship teams through the hockey history. So that's the leafs of the 40's and 60's , Detroit of the 5os 90s 2000's ,habs 5o's and 70s NY islanders of 80s , Oilers of 80s , Chicago's 00's kings 00's

Real leadership can close it more then once

Who's asking Phil Kessel to talk at all when he's in a room with Beliveau, Zetterberg, Leetch, MacInnis, Getzlaf, Gare, St. Louis and Poulin?

You're way off on this one. Kessel is a fantastic offensive player and one of the best spares in terms of pure offense. How exactly is he hurting my team as a spare?

Thanks for this.

That doesn't make you a cancer. It makes you a slightly awkward guy who doesn't like to do media.

It makes you like every Euro whose English is less than fluent, except the ***holes in the Toronto media won't stop giving him flak about it. If he was a Coyote or Hurricane, he'd just be a quiet star and few fans would hate him. All the rest is Toronto's fault.

Maybe only for one pick, actually. I'm not at all sure which of Kuzkin and Harmon is better. Both are great picks here.

Perhaps, but Harmon has been better in a vacuum than a lot of the defensemen selected before him.

Yeah Kessel was the least of Toronto's problems when he was here. He's not great at being "the guy", and that's perfectly OK. We have seen what he can do when he isn't the focal point of attention, and he is surely a great asset for the Penguins. I really wish management was more patient with trading him.
