With the fifth pick, the Borg Collective are proud to assimilate Pavel Borge. He will join Sergei Fedorborg, as they prepare to assimilate the league. Resistance is Futile.

That's who I thought jarek was talking about when he said a forward stuck out.

As far as offense only guys, he's one of the best remaining, and has a good play-off record too.

Interesting that you'd think that. Even if I was in a position to draft him, I wouldn't have done it based on the construction of my team. That fact alone would have given that away.

I'm almost starting to wonder if you guys are drafting players for the ability to assimilate their names as much as their playing abilities.

I just assumed you mentioned it because you couldn't draft him based on team build.

tony d is offline, I'll make his pick:

tony d listpicks Vladislav Tretiak, G

Voight has been pm'ed.

Comments on the top-100 picks:

4. Markrander87 + Stoneberg - West Lafayette Lion Tamers - Gordie Howe, RW
The best case scenario at this draft position!~ :handclap:

7. Cyborg Yzerman + Cyborg Leclair - The Borg Collective - Raymond Bourque, D
8. tony d - Toledo Goal Diggers - Nicklas Lidstrom, D
9. Voight - Indiana Ice - Eddie Shore, D
I'm not sure about the order, but the trio in the top-10 in a team-building exercise is duh obviously worth it.

16. Iceman - Stockholm Full Throttle - Jaromir Jagr, RW
It's funny how some anti-compiler posters have become huge on JJ in recent years (no reference to the GM who took him this year).

18. broad - HC Borussia Red Bull - Sidney Crosby, C
22. rmartin65 - Miami Screaming Eagles - Alexander Ovechkin, LW
I dunno if Crosby is a better value at the deep center ice position relative to all-time greats at left wing (OV and Lindsay).

26. seventieslord - Regina Pats - Patrick Roy, G
Officially a 2nd round pick in a 25-team all-time draft? Insane! :shakehead

31. Sprague Cleghorn - HC Dukla Jihlava - Bill Cook, RW
34. Hawkey Town 18 - Chicago Shamrocks - Sergei Makarov, RW
37. chaosrevolver - Cobalt Silver Kings - Mike Bossy, RW
There's a trio I've no idea which order they should be drafted! There are so many considerations. All top-50 indeed.

38. Johnny Engine - Southern Shore Breakers - Sprague Cleghorn, D
40. seventieslord - Regina Pats - Earl Seibert, D
48. Sprague Cleghorn - HC Dukla Jihlava - Tim Horton, D
Q: Is their defensive ability better enough than the next three more two-way blueliners to justify such early selection?

51. Leaf Lander - Toronto Maple Leafs -Zdeno Chara, D
52. ck26 - Amarillo Gorillas - Chris Pronger, D
54. Markrander87 + Stoneberg - West Lafayette Lion Tamers - Scott Stevens, D
A: Maybe, maybe not.

55. Hawkey Town 18 - Chicago Shamrocks - Syl Apps Sr, C
70. Sprague Cleghorn - HC Dukla Jihlava - Ted Kennedy, C
79. rmartin65 - Miami Screaming Eagles - Elmer Lach, C
106. chaosrevolver - Cobalt Silver Kings - Max Bentley, C
THE GAP BETWEEN THESE GUYS IS NOT JUSTIFIED. That should be obvious.

Wait... Did you just claim that Cleghorn, Seibert, and Horton are not two-way defensemen... But Chara is?
Ten straight years of 40+ points per season average.

Cleghorn has like what, two years of offense?
Seibert wasn't known for puck control and his best two years offensively were the WWII war years.

I always thought Chara skilled at moving the puck up ice on a quality first pass.

Well, unless I'm misinformed, Cleghorn was a top-5 offensive producer for the blueline like 10 seasons of his career. Seibert is close behind at 9 seasons.

Chara's most prominent offensive contribution comes in the form of his powerplay point shot. Perhaps I'm under rating him, but I don't think he was a top 5 offensive guy many times.

Apps does not belong in the same tier as the other 3 guys. His Hart record is miles better than any of them. Lach is the only one whose AS record is even close; however Lach earned a 1st team, a 2nd team and a Hart win during the 2 major War years of 44 and 45 (Apps and Bentley both missed those 2 prime years due to military service, and I can't speak for Bentley but Apps also missed portions of 2 other seasons for the same reason).

Apps was a strong playoff performer earning a retro Smythe and was Captain of 3 Cup Winners (I'd put Kennedy ahead of him for post season play but of course Kennedy has by far the weakest regular season resume of these 4).

Hart record: 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 5

I was confused by VI's description of those Dmen as well, I would call them all two-way guys with Cleghorn and Pronger as the two most offensive and Chara as the least offensive.

Im picking C, RW Alexander Maltsev. He'll be playing on the right side of Lalonde, feeding him passes. Apparently, Ive been alerted that this exact duo was used in the last ATD!

Season 2 had it's moments as well, the episode to determine Data's humanity is one that really stands out.

I *sort of* got into Star Trek when the new movies came out. Really like those movies. After I watched the first one, I watched every single other Star Trek movie and came away rather impressed. The TOS ones were definitely my favorite because Kirk was a badass. I will say that the plot lines sometimes are a little out there, but I pretty much accept that's just what Star Trek is about and don't worry about it too much.

I just recently started watching Voyager as well. The premise of a Federation star ship all alone in space over 70,000 light years from home held such promise. However, I've been utterly disappointed with the writing and only keep watching because I really like some of the characters.

- The reset button is used liberally. At the beginning of the show, they even specifically state that certain supplies are at a premium (like photon torpedoes), yet at no point so far (I'm at S4E12 or so) has this ever become relevant. This becomes especially stupid in the episode "Concerning Flight", where a whole host of their supplies has been raided, yet all they care about is their computer chip..

- It doesn't feel like there's any continuity or the feeling of time passing/distance being traveled. I expected a lot more of such things like the whole Kazon arc (which was brought down in quality considerably due to very poor writing IMO). Instead, so many episodes focus on one problem, one race, and you never hear of this stuff again. It feels more like Voyager has some kind of home base in the Delta Quadrant, and they're just going in random directions every episode from that point and an episode is born from that idea.

- The Year of Hell two-parter specifically I felt had such great potential to be something awesome, but instead of adding some permanence to the plot, they just use the reset button to make it so nothing ever happened. This was used two or three other times and it's really annoying.

- WTF Ocampas? Their entire existence is completely implausible based on their life span and ability to pro-create just once, ever. I LOVED Kes as a character, but they would have had to get rid of her sooner or later because of her life span, which is sad. I mean seriously, do they not stop and think about their ideas before they implement them? How did the Ocampas ever even come into existence, and how did they grow to have such a large population? None of it makes any sense.

There's a host of other things I didn't really like but they all generally fall under the same umbrella as the above. It's too bad because I find the actual cast of the show to be rather interesting.

Lach's record is really impressive on paper. I was thinking about him when I took Ullman, but given that 2 of his best years came during the war, I didn't feel like there was really much of a difference between those two players.
