This was a tough call but the Lion Tamers have decided to inject some serious speed and skill in to our top 6 with the selection of Denis Savard, C.

Savard was a one time 2nd team all star, but had the good fortune of spending his prime up against the likes of Gretzky and then Lemieux.

He was 5 times top 7 in assists and points and has 7 year vsX of 85.5, putting him comfortably in the Hawerchuk, Perreault, Sittler tier of C's offensively.

Amarillo Gorillas will take the worker/grinder for the Gretzky line, the bodyguard and the man who put the Grande in Trio Grande

LW Clark Gillies

...the man who put the Grande in Trio Grande LW Clark Gillies
I hate to burst your bubble but... that line was great for just a couple of years BEFORE the dynasty years and broke up during the dynasty, Gillies sent to the third line. I remember the Isles against my Canucks in '82 and young Oilers in '83 and the NYI's won both cup finals but Gillies was not in the top-6. I don't have references in front of me, but the Trio Grande line with Gillies gained noteriety before the dynasty years and was broken up by the coach during the dynasty years. It's after midnight here, I'll dig for evidence of it in the morrow. G'night. Still,.. I'd put Gillies in a Bottom-6 role in an all-time context. Third-line left wing? Sure!

I'll take the best player in the world bob gainey
Love the oblique historical reference! I was there. The Soviets thought he was a hockey god.

As he is wont to do, LL makes one great pick (this is quite late for Thomson, who is better than several defensemen taken before him) and one so-so pick, though at least he got a guaranteed fit in Mortson.

Thomson was the guy we were heavily considering grabbing when we went with Savard. Didn't feel comfortable with either of them making it back to 204, but with a low end #1C we figured Savard was more valuable to our team... but damn Thomson would have looked good next to Patrick.

Leaf Lander selects two Leafs? SHOCKING!

You go on like its a bad thing I have 4 bruins n 3 leafs and a ranger so far

Too me they are like 2 top dman on any cup winning team.

So either draft them now as a pair or potentialy miss the pairing.

I feel one was great and not in the hall of fame cause he set up the union in toronto and the other was very good.

They both played just under 800 nhl games during the origional 6 train era.

Top 4 D
Orr Chara
Thomson Mortson

Thomson, Morton, Komstantinov and Flaman were my defenseman list, don't remember who was next so give me a second and I'll get a goalie.

The Pittsburgh Bankers select RW Babe Dye

...A great goal-scorer, with a great shot and also a good playoff player. Could possibly be good a good winger for Mario Lemieux. Mario always played great with a power forward on his line and Babe Dye should fill that role quite nicely.

Unless I'm missing something Dye scores a lot of goals and does little else. He definitely isn't a power forward..

Once you account for era, his offense is pretty much the same as Gordie Drillon, so they are interchangeable I think.

I agree Gordie Drillon and Babe Dye are similar players. Drillon was known for his net presence, tip-ins and basically goals around the net but some of the quotes for Babe Dye's stickhandling and overall shooting abilities are quite impressive. I don't think people back then considered Drillon as an equal to Dye at all in terms of scoring goals. He wasn't fast on his skates but I'm starting to think that maybe he was like an early version of Brett Hull. The more I'm reading on him the more I'm starting to think that he gets a lil underrated at times, and he might just be a top 15-20 pure sniper in hockey history. There's no reason a goal scorer of Babe Dye's caliber shouldn't be a borderline top 120 player of all-time.

Dye was great value where you got him, just surround him with the right ingredients!
