All fair points, and I'm not going to sit here and say he was a good pick at the time he was taken. It reminds me of when I took a certain player a few drafts ago and got universally lambasted for trying to paint him as anything more than mediocre at what he was good at.

Malone - Messier - Pitre

Is definitely the most intriguing top line built for me personally. He got good value on Malone. If nothing else it will be a handful for teams to deal with

Whalers select Vladimir Martinec, RW

MadArcand picked Martinec at 9:07 AM EST. This means BB has until 7:07 PM EST , or another 2 hours and 13 minutes, since we're still in round 6 and thus a 10 hour clock.

Ideally, we'd want to not be using either, but since not all of us have photographic memories, they're both good guides to who the next best players might be. If TZ can make a good case for Pitre as an at least average 1st line winger in this thing, Pitre won't slip back into the 200s again. But that's up to him.

This draft has been an absolute blast for me. I'm learning a ton. I have some info on Pitre that I snagged out of a French hockey book from a 1940's interview with a goalie that played against both Lalonde and Morenz. He talks about Pitre. I think Pitre was taking over as coach maybe at the time??

Just for everyone's information, I'm going for wrist surgery on Feb. 8th and may not be able to use a computer for at least 2 weeks, possibly longer. Is anyone who is following the draft but not a participant able to temporarily take over my team until I can return? Details can be worked out afterwards.

Sorry for the delay, I was busy all day.

Weber has a pretty strong Norris record for this point of the draft.Quick comparison with some defensemen already taken:

Weber: 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 7, 8, 10
Blake: 1, 3, 3, 4, 5, 8
Murphy: 3, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11
Wilson: 1, 3, 4, 4, 8
Laperriere: 1, 2, 4, 4, 5, 5
Tremblay: 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 11

Has a chance to finish relatively high this year too.

Weber is big, tough and physical, has one of the greatest slap-shot of all-time from the point, and is considered a good leader and presence in the lockerroom.

I would've bet all my money that BB was taking Weber, nice pick...I would've strongly considered him before trading down from 119 if I didn't already have a RHS in Chelios. Pick coming shortly...

Thanks.I'm not sure yet if I'm going to play him with Harvey. Both played primarily RD, but Harvey was very flexible as to which side he played. He played the left point on the PP, and from what poster Canadiens1958 said, he often switched to the left side when he faced players like Gordie Howe. Also, at the beginning of his career, he played on the LD until his partner retired.

I guess it'll depend how my next few picks goes.

Not to mention Weber was an Olympic all star in 2010 and led Team Canada in points in 2014

Just like Thornton, Weber has a regular season record that compares well to guys select a while ago. They just haven't been as good in the playoffs... Though neither has been terrible either.

Agreed. On the other hand, Weber played a more important role in major international tournaments.

I'm intrigued to see what Weber will do in the playoffs now that he's in Montreal.Regardless, his lack of playoff record is not that concerning for me with a core of Harvey, Trottier and Geoffrion, all among the greatest playoff performers ever.

I feel the same way with Thornton. He doesn't have to be "the guy" playing with Joliat and Richard. He just has to do what he does best - dish out pristene passes and dominate the boards!

Joliat - Thornton - Richard

Would have looked better with Lindros but this will work just as well!

You mean you will only be able to type out 10% of what you actually want to say :sarcasm:

Haha just joking man, best of luck with the surgery. Worst case scenario I hope you could follow along and PM someone who you want. We wont hold anything against you for not being able to provide lengthy discussions or rationale for that time period.

Thanks for the positive vibes!

It's not a major operation. Removal of a ganglion cyst. The hope is that it doesn't come back because we've had no luck so far just draining it. :(

I'll get in touch with Dwight, maybe he'll be interested in helping me out!

The Chicago Shamrocks select Lionel Conacher, D

I'm at work right now, so I don't have time to give you guys a full write up, but using actual AS finishes and Hart finishes before AS teams I have his record roughly as follows:

1, 2/3, 3/4, 3/4, 4/5

He also has a Retro Conn Smythe 1934

Glad I traded up, you guys have decimated the list I would have had for 139th!

There's one more player I'd have been happy to take at 139 but I doubt he lasts that long.

I do like the Thornton-Richard duo. Richard wont pass, but it doesn't really matter, as Thornton won't score much anyway.

And Joliat is there to fill in all the gaps. Don't forget Mighty Atom! :)

Thornton is also going to create *a lot* of space for Richard. The guy is a beast along the boards.

Yeah, Joliat-Thornton-Richard is a good line chemistry-wise.It's not a very physical line, but they won't be pushed around easily at all. It's not a soft line.

Defensively, both Joliat and Thornton can hold their own.I wouldn't expect Thornton to be anything else than competent defensively at the ATD level, but that's still better than a lot of 1st line centers.

Pretty good fit with Cheli if thats the route you're going.

I would argue the line is quite physical. Joliat was a very physical player, despite his size, although his size might cause some issues here. That's part of the reason I targeted Thornton. He isn't physical in the traditional sense. He won't knock people around. But once he gets the puck it's almost impossible to knock him off of it. How many players can you name in the last decade that have been more dominant along the boards?

Richard is also quite physical as well unless I am misunderstanding him. But I didn't want to leave that burden to him and Joliat. I want him to focus on putting the puck in the back of the net, and he'll be able to do that here.

Joliat - Thornton - Richard
I like this line. They are not great defensively (as a line), but Thornton can provide Richard and Joliat with good passes and play in the slot and both wingers are scoring threats. I think, that these wingers needed a man, who can feed them with assists and Thornton is a good variant here.
