so ye, i think maybe we should balance the PP lines again, JT shouldnt be in that spot if he wont screen the goaltender, put bunting on the PP1 with matthews and marner and sandin and put willy, JT, and maybe simmonds or spezza on PP2 with rielly..wouldnt mind lily getting a shot on the pp too

good game overall. Their goalie played great and Leafs had a bunch of grade A chances.

I wonder how long Ritchie is going to be given a top 6 role. I can see him a better fit with Kampf and Kase. Bunting moves up to Matthews line and Kerfoot goes to Tavares line where he has chemistry with Willy.

Dubas needs to be slapped upside the head for wasting a protection spot on Justin Holl. Jared McCann would be awesome on this team, and it could have gave us a huge option at C.

How the f*** do you end up overvaluing a dime-a-dozen D that badly?

did you miss the d market this year? 2 million is a steal

In 3 games Justin Holl is -4 with one shot on goal. Sweet.

So mid season form. Scary thing is that Muzzin looks like the miles are catching up to him, he doesn’t look strong enough to carry Holl this season. Muzzin might need to be the support partner for Brodie or Reilly this year.

Shanahan might want to define what is "killer instinct"

apparently it isnt clear
Killer instinct would be Shanny, or Keefe or Dubas getting in front of the mic and telling Gary to fix this shit.
Tired of open season on our guys while if we even look cross eyed at someone it's a multi game suspension.

Agree. Trouba and Miller were fantastic which bailed out Fox but Fox didn’t look like himself at all.

During the Sandin draft one of the guys I really liked was K'Andre Miller. Pure athlete back there with the wing span to boot. Think the Rangers traded up to grab him.

Rangers fans chiming in. We should have lost that game.

That was Fox’s worst game in a long time.

On the other side, that was the best game of Shesterkin’s career.

Idk, I think you guys deserved the win. Your goalie played amazing and Panarin scored a big goal, that's what hockey is about.

agreed, I don’t have the answer. I hope they figure it out and start scoring

but the same people putting it all on marners shoulders night in and night out is just bullshit and tiring. He was buzzing tonight with Matthews. Probably his best game thus far.
I think the Marner stuff is over the top but at the same time, he is the 7th highest paid player, 1st team all Stars, he really should not need to play with another 10mil plus players to be effective. Same can be said with JT and AM. All three of them are being paid in the Top 7 in the League, they really should not need to play with another 10mil plus player to show their worth.

The contrast between this game and the Ottawa games is quite something.

They clearly manage canadian vs canadian games to be close and entertaining. Canadian team vs American team? They just flat out put the screws to the Leafs and don't even attempt to hide it.

Controlled most of the game. Tons of chances which is great, but the lack of killer instinct came up again. Ritchie better figure out how to work on that line really quickly.

And Sandin got no PP time because the stacked unit plays the entire 2 minutes, that's not good. The forwards I somewhat understand if they stay but there's no way Rielly should be there the whole 2 minutes.

Is there any evidence the Leafs get 'outgoalied' more often than other teams? I mean, are they not always one of the top scoring teams in the NHL?
Could be somewhere. They are expected to be a possession dominate team so it sort of makes sense but jeez as a Leafs fan you really notice whenever they get unlucky or run into a hot/elite goalie.

As I said in another post I really enjoyed the game but I’m getting tired of all the excuses why we didn’t score

I don't like not scoring any more than anyone else and losing in OT at home, but if we're following along the process and maturation storyline, I'm a lot happier with the full 64ish minutes than some of the barn burner track meet wins over the years. I want to win but I think a night like this helps set a good foundation for more wins down the road.

Rangers did trade up to grab him, traded a 2nd round pick that they got from the Grabner trade because it was rumored Minnesota and Anaheim were ready to pick Miller. He’s been amazing for us. 6’5 and has the full package, offensively and defensively. I really think he can become a top 20 NHL defenseman. But Sandin looked good tonight as well. Unfortunately Fox seemed to have disappointed a lot of Leafs fans but today was one of his worst games in a long time, he didn’t look like himself at all

It doesn’t matter who he is. If our high paid supposed super stars can’t score what is the pointing invest in them

It's why people say you build teams from the net out, and ours is built from the forwards in - and why that bothers me.

Goal scoring is not reliable - even the best only score on 15% of their shots.

He's a great defenseman but was Makar's Norris.

I had Fox, but there are definitely arguments for either side. Makar is a better offensive driver & has more production (but again, his teammates are way better), where as Fox is elite at driving offense too, and one of the best defensive players in the league (much better than Makar). Both elite in transition and on the PP.

Makar has way more natural talent, but Fox is almost equally as effective while working pretty much just with his brain.

Edit: They were both just insane, tbh (and so was McAvoy):

Too many people in this thread have no idea who Sheshterkin is and are in for a lot of years of "oh man we have no finish" when the Leafs play the Rangers.

Great goalies have a lot of pucks "shot right at them" - it's not a coincidence. Some of the reads he made, and his positioning in response were elite and resulted in pucks to the body.
Why can't it be both true that he had an elite game while at the same time shot selection was bad?

There were still circumstances where they did shoot right at him. There were 40 shots in total. Enough for both cases to be true. Nobody is stealing credit from the goalie. We saw him steal the game for the Rangers with our own eyes.

I sure hope so. The excuses are starting to wear me down
