Too many people in this thread have no idea who Sheshterkin is and are in for a lot of years of "oh man we have no finish" when the Leafs play the Rangers.

Great goalies have a lot of pucks "shot right at them" - it's not a coincidence. Some of the reads he made, and his positioning in response were elite and resulted in pucks to the body.
It doesn’t matter who he is. If our high paid supposed super stars can’t score what is the pointing invest in them

This was a fun game of hockey that we dominated huge portions of the game. There were plenty of chances and the OT was majorly entertaining. If you came away mad, I can’t see how you even like hockey. We won’t win every game, and losses aren’t excuses for meltdowns. We got a point, and played the best we have all season. We will only get better.

Shh the marner apologists and all will point towards are amazing xGF and call you stupid.

Yes the leafs played great. Yes the finishing is a concern. The two can co-exist.
Well, why do you have to point the finger at Marner? IPS didn’t mention him in his post, lol.

That is a ridiculously short-sighted argument. Progress is what gets you to the finals. Not getting your ass slapped in the first round not being able to win shit.

no it’s not short sighted. It’s just straight truth. You lose in the second round you didn’t win the cup; you lose in the first round you didn’t win the cup. It’s actually sad that we’ve set the bar so low.

And they'll say the same f***ing thing come the playoffs. The Leafs are oh-so-great but just keep running into hot goalies.

Man, is Adam Fox overrated or what. That guy has nothing on Cale Makar.

Fox is the arguably the second best defenseman in the league with only McAvoy, Hamilton, and Hedman really in the same conversation (and Hedman had a horrible year last year). Makar is pretty clearly #1 (and probably would have won the Norris if healthy), but his teammates are also so (so) much better.

He didn't have a great game, but he is straight up dominant most nights with a bad partner and a bunch of guys that can score, but can't drive play (besides Panarin). He basically runs the offense and defense by himself when he's on the ice.

I didn’t really notice fox that game apart from a few turnover and a neat play or two.
One the other hand, I still remember a 1 minutes shift from two years ago where Makar held the puck for 50 seconds of it and just walked around our guys. They aren’t comparable imo and fox was lucky Makar got injured last year

fox is an elite #1D, borderline franchise

Makar is a franchise, borderline generational one

Makar trailed Fox by 3 points and played 11 fewer games and stood out looking like a McDavid on defense on one of the 3 best teams in the league. Fox is great but probably snagged that Norris amidst some pandemic confusion.

Overall happy with the way the leafs played. I felt they controlled the game. My biggest issue right now is Ritchie and how it looks like he’s just floating around there.

It’s also really bizarre that Ritchie took Marner’s number. 16 floating all over the ice and not willing to engage anywhere.

10th game in a row 1st line choked their asses of on every scoring chance. Keefe addressing it like he addressed the PP.

Finished by an 11 million dollar winger who can score a goal.
Panarin is what Mitch could be if the kid could shoot the puck and if he played with heart

Winning the Cup is the goal and not winning a round, but last I check, I really have not seen a team who lost 5 first rounds in a row with the same core and just suddenly win the Cup the following year.
Anything can happen in the playoffs but you need to score and quite frankly the Leafs for some strange reasons just can’t score when it matters the last 5 playoffs.

agreed, I don’t have the answer. I hope they figure it out and start scoring

but the same people putting it all on marners shoulders night in and night out is just bullshit and tiring. He was buzzing tonight with Matthews. Probably his best game thus far.

Dubas needs to be slapped upside the head for wasting a protection spot on Justin Holl. Jared McCann would be awesome on this team, and it could have gave us a huge option at C.

How the f*** do you end up valuing a dime-a-dozen D that badly?
That I can agree with. Holl is terribad.

He's a great defenseman but was Makar's Norris.

I enjoyed the game but I’m mad that we didn’t score instead of them.
Many Leaf fans are sick of being “out goalied”, up against “hot goalie” etc etc.

Rangers fans chiming in. We should have lost that game.

That was Fox’s worst game in a long time.

On the other side, that was the best game of Shesterkin’s career.
Agree. Trouba and Miller were fantastic which bailed out Fox but Fox didn’t look like himself at all.
