That rangers? Wouldn't feel the same if they had a 1st round pick next year

I hope it isn't Columbus. This team has had and will have lots of good RFA's in the near future. I want them to take the high road with regards to offer sheets.

I think they've learned from the Russian experiment. There's a reason they traded 9th overall a few years back to get Schneider instead of drafting Nichushkin.

:help: Kucherov aint Nich. Risk worth the reward; as it was with Kovalchuk

I agree with Dave, but if it's not a trade, I at least hope Carolina picked up the phone and called.

Teams can negotiate with other teams players now?

We offer sheeted Fedorov back in the 90's and he signed. Detroit was forced to match and was not pleased iirc

Columbus doesn't have the cap space, To offer sheet Kucherov $6.5 million or so. So i doubt it's the Blue Jackets.

I would love to see a team make a 6.5 offer, because TB would match and then make the required move(s), and this thing would be over.

Once the season starts and teams have to be cap compliant, can Tampa still match Kucherov's offer sheet even though it would put them over the cap? If a team signs him for $8+ million, for example. Or would they have to clear the cap space first before matching?

Yeah totally agree with that, A team would have to offer sheet Kucherov at least $7 million to $7.5 million for Yzerman to consider not matching and taking the picks. More then likely around $7.5 million to $8 million for him to take the picks.

New Jersey doesn't have their 3rd this year, could they use Colorado's as compensation?

Only way NJ does it is if they offer 9M+, and it will cost them four first round picks.

Nobody but Carolina can offer sheet him right now. (Since NJ won't be willing to part with that many picks.)

I don't see why he'd sign a deal that would only cost a team 2 1sts, 1 2nd and 1 3rd. More likely it would be 4 1st round picks. Remember, the rule of how the salary is calculated is: "determined by dividing such compensation by the lesser of the number of years of the Offer Sheet or five"

So if a team offers him $7M for 7 years, that's $49M / 5 = $9.8M..which would mean 4 1st round picks.

I just imagine Stevie Y calling all of the GM's in a Liam Neeson voice saying " I will find you...."
