A player not scoring does not equal they suck at everything. Zadina is playing quite decent in other areas of the game. He also never sees PP1 when neither Suter or Fabbri have improved our PP at all. "Oh he didn't score again, he must have sucked!"
Top 6 forwards are supposed to score, bottom 6 not so much. It all depends on what you're looking for in player. Somehow I don't think anyone's expectations were 3rd line winger.

He hasn't done anything to deserve PP1 time, on most teams he'd be an energy line player at best with no PP time at all. He's getting opportunities based on his draft position and nothing else. I think long term he better learn how to PK, not PP if he wants to stick in this league. He's a poor man's Gagner.

He has better PP production than both Suter and Fabbri with far far less ice time on PP1.

Suter has 3 assists on the PP
Fabbri has 3 goals and 1 assist on the PP

Zadina on the 2nd unit for the most part has 2 goals and 2 assists.

Also our PP is clicking at a whopping 15% so those 2 aren't doing anything to improve it.

At ES Fabbri has only 4 more pts with 2.5 minutes more a game and gets line 1 duty when Bertuzzi is out.

So basically all you said is that none of them deserve PP time, lol. Let's throw Gagner back in.

Other than Bert/Larkin/Raymond the rest of the forwards basically suck. I'd rather have Hronek on PP1 with Seider. At least Hronek can shoot the puck hard, even though it usually hits a shin or the glass.

"I'm going to fill their nets with pucks."
— Zadina

People saying only looking at the box score, or he wasn't meant to be a sniper. Please. His box score sucks and most of his on ice play is very underwhelming.

Is he the worst player ever? No. Is he average or maybe even below average so far. Yes.

Like I said before you could replace him with so many players. He's basically slower Helm or Gagne at this point. Maybe not even that. lol

Those "quotes" are pretty cherry picked to fit your lame narrative. No one would have been pleased with this pick on draft night if you saw his production thus far. Like I said it's not even debatable...

I don’t know why you put quotes in quotes. Those are write ups from various sources dating back to 2018. Cherry picked? I mean you challenged my claim that Zadina wasn’t picked solely for his goal scoring ability. Why would you think that I would go out and find things that didn’t support me? You said Zadina was picked as a sniper and that’s it. I showed you people who disagreed.

And I never said people would be overjoyed when seeing his production today. But there people simple people like you that look exclusively at the counting stats (how many goals, how many points) and that alone is the basis for your assessment. There are others who can see more of the picture by looking at analytics and not falling into the trap of looking solely at counting stats.

Being a good hockey player is not a result in isolation. It’s a process.

Dont use logic with people who hate Zadina lol

People are having a lot of trouble separating their 40 goal expectations that werent met with how hes turned into a solid 2 way winger. If he isnt scoring 40, he might as well be in Grand Rapids

I don't expect him to score 40 but I would hope that the goalie has to work to make a save every once in a while. He's shooting at 5% and that is not bad luck, he shoots it right into the logo every time. I swear, other than his couple of goals I've never seen him get the puck more than two feet off the ice.

I will give it to him, he has had some great backchecks - on plays that he's given away. He may have leared it up a bit in the last 10 games or so, but for the last few years, he has had just terrible vision when passing the puck. If I had to guess, he leads the team in giveaways. Passes into skates of teammates or opponents probably 20% of the time.

You cannot honestly tell me that he looks good by the eye test. People who use advanced analytics as their only crutch have their head as far up their backsides as the ones who only look at counting stats.

I actually can tell you he looks good by the eye test. You clearly just don't have the ability to watch isolated play of specific players.

I didn't say he is perfect and always looks good. He passes the eye test in a positive fashion much more frequently than you and others would have others believe.

Speaking of eye tests...When even I see Zadina play, I notice his weak shot. Makes me wonder if he is nurturing some kind of upper body injury. That could maybe explain something. I seem to recall that he got hit pretty hard early in the season (or pre-season) and was slow to get up.

im thinking zadina has a under developed / weak upper body thats gotten banged up once he hit the bigs . and hopefully it'll just take a few years to develop strength and hard shot . im also wildy speculating with no basis in information on the topic that czech hockey is behind the times in player development so zadina has talent but catching up to do at physical development concerning strength training

The thing is, if he's playing like a 3rd line winger, he should be a 3rd line winger.

Instead we're constantly having discussions of "we should put him on the first line to get his confidence up" and "we should move Seider down to the 2nd PP to get Zadina going"

Nobody's ever trying to find ways to do favors for Adam Erne and Mitchell Stephens to inflate their stats.

2nd PP units (ehehehe, pp unit) don't usually score much. Look at other teams around the league and you'll see that 2/3 to 3/4 of goals scored on the PP. As an example, the 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning scored 74 powerplay goals. 54 of them were scored between Stamkos, Point and Kucherov.

Nobody should be counting on the 2nd powerplay to score much. Also Zadina having exactly 1 more powerplay point than Suter and Fabbri isn't indication he's a better player. Zadina was utilized on the 1st PP a bit earlier in the year and he was bad. Kept sending crest seeking shots at the goalie and was weak on the wall. That one extra point he has than them? A 2nd assist on a Lucas Raymond powerplay goal.

Someone mentioned in a Zadina thread on the main forums that his athleticism/conditioning scores at the combine were pretty average. There was a behind the scenes youtube thing where they were following around the Canadiens and in it was their discussion of how they graded players physical scores. Apparently Kotkaniemi was near the top for them. I can't help but wonder if that's also part of why Zadina fell.

If this is true, Zadina has more room for improvement, and will most probably be a late bloomer in his career.

Every game you can see that he has the mind, but not physics yet.

Having a bad corona version year ago didn't help for conditioning either.

The guy has 19 goals for his career and was touted as a goal scorer. He even said himself he would fill the net with goals. Never scores and instead of admitting the obvious we get all these pointless "reasons" for why he sucks. As of today he looks like a bust. I hope he turns it around.

It’s as if some of you on here don’t think it’s possible for a player to be a late bloomer. He does have some obvious flaws, and I completely get how he can be seen as a disappointment so far given his pre-draft hype and draft day comments, but he still has time to turn it around.

The fact that some of you constantly shit on him for saying he’ll fill nets is absolutely hilarious. How dare a kid who was being hyped as a potential top three pick say something like that after getting passed up on draft day.

Yeah, I’m also disappointed in his lack of goals scored at this point in time, but I’d like to think Detroit fans would want a young Detroit player to succeed and become an everyday top six forward. Not saying that some criticism isn’t warranted, but holy hell, it’s like he pissed in some of your gas tanks. Also don’t know what kind of return you expect if he’s as bad as some of you say he is.

He had maybe a few games and that is it and what is our pp doing now as is? Nothing.

Also second assists are not some negative thing as many of them are the reason for a goal. Only on HF is secondary assists some negative thing for some reason. Also why is him assisting on a good player scoring a negative to him?
