Remember when everyone blamed our busting prospects on being rushed?

Friendly reminder that 'let them develop the right way' is not always the 'right' way.

Some prospects need time, some need to be challenged. Dal Colle got comfortable.

Some people just peak in high school...thats just how it is.

Here are some Dal Colle highlights.

I think we screwed him up because he looks faster and better than he did when he was up with the team. Hands were better..got in and fought for the puck.

Most of his goals were below the hash...He does remind me of a different kind of Nelson though...I do think he is good enough for the NHL...I just think we really messed up with his development.

Lots of goals on open shots from the slot between the hashmarks, mostly after being fed by a teammate. Go watch one of Nylander's draft year videos and tell me it wasn't pretty clear then who the better prospect was. MDC was a complimentary player, albeit a good scoring one, in juniors. And you don't use a #5 overall pick on that.

From the 25 mins or so of footage I’ve seen of Whal, he’s got a slippery, lankiness about him. Soft, deft hands. Skating looks raw, but fast.

He loves cutting to the net and getting a shot off in motion.

I still can't believe we got this guy. I didn't think it was possible before the draft, I was so sure someone is going to take him earlier. He's definitely a nice catch.

What I really like is that he has the skating and stick skills of a high end forward, he's more than his vaunted shot. Still, he can really fling it and has a lightning quick release. At 6'1" and 208, he's already got NHL size.

What a steal.

Your mom's Facebook page?

I'm not offended by this comment and my Mom would probably laugh, too. When I was younger, I would have played along, but I have too much respect for my Mom to play along at this point of my life.

Now that I've prefaced, I can say... I don't think Facebook allows naked pictures. I'll ask her.

Some people rated him (can't remember where) the best stickhandler in the draft. The moves are all based around getting his shot off.

I just hope he can pull that stuff off without putting his head down in the slot like that. Looks a little bit dangerous.

I was at the camp last night. I was surprised by his size (big dude) and speed. I think he does a year in college and has a legit shot of playing next year

Makes sense! I'm excited to see how he progresses.
As am I. He was my favorite player in the draft and I never in a million years though we’d get him. He’s big, skilled, and has an incredible shot. He’s also smarter than some reports have suggested questioning his Hockey IQ. I’m not worried about him.

I’m going to try and see him s few times this year in BC. I also can’t wait for the WJC. The isles will be well represented next year.

Is Bellows on the bubble of making the Islanders? Or will he be back in the CHL and playing in the WJC?

The fact he didn't make either Canadian World Junior Squad as a 19 and 20 year old should have sent warning signals off for us

Good point. Definitely should have been a big red flag. As was stated he was BY FAR a consensus #5 pick and was the "safest" draft choice available at the time, but it turns out he has no compete level. The guy needs to put his nose to the grindstone and work when he's on the ice - fight for every inch of space. He's still a top-5 pick with good size and (I'd wager) the same shot that got him drafted where he did. He has an opportunity to right the ship and make beaucoup bucks in this league if he properly leverages his size. Hopefully last night's no-show was a wake-up call that the kids are breezing by him.
