Any chance this kid makes the team? Physically he looks ready and his shot teamed with Barzal yikes that could be a deadly combo.

My 2 cents is the only way he makes this team is if Tavares signs elsewhere and Islanders decide to tear down and rebuild(ie get rid of Lee and/or Eberle) and figure they start the Barzal-Wahlstrom era early.

Let’s not pencil an 18 yr old into the lineup (let alone a 20 yr old in Bellows).

Doesn’t Whalstrom need to put some meat on his frame? He looks like he’ll get tossed around in the NHL.

Aside from him being a great player, he's such a good interview. He's not one of those typical hockey interviews that seems pretty monotonous and robotic. Seems like a humble and genuine kid.

I just try to give an effort and always give 110% and play for my teammates and hope we try to do good every shift and play for each other. I couldn't do this without my teammates and the guys in the locker room and my linemates and coaches and training staff. It's an honor to be on this team with all the guys and we really stick together and support each other. We're like a family and we really like each other. I couldn't ask for better teammates and coaches. It's really surreal that I'm here. Very humbling and an honor. This is a first class organization with amazing people and great coaches. This is a dream come true for me. It's so surreal and humbling. We just want to go out there and give a 110% every game and every shift. We just want to take it one game at a time, one shift at a time. I just try to stay focused and play for the crest on the front not the name on the back. This is a first class organization with great guys and a great staff. It's really humbling and surreal to be here. Amazing group of guys.

I find that he doesnt look 6'1 , but he looked every bit of 200+ pounds when I caught some of the u-18 games a month ago

so they might be cheating on his height a bit .

There was a photo of him at the combine he's a big looks like he put a lot of time in the gym.
Solid frame much thicker than Dobson he would be bigger then most of our forwards right now.

Stoked for Wahlstrom in 2019-2020. He's obviously big and strong enough physically, and seems pretty darn likable. Nobody is going to have to tell him to shoot the puck. It's all going to be about maturity, preparation, and attention to defense and detail. 1 year NCAA development seems smaht.

Is Chris Kreider a fair comparison to Wahlstrom?
Better finisher than Kreider, but Kreider has elite speed and size (and uses it, sometimes goes overboard and is borderline dirty).

Like Bellows, Wahlstrom should be a perennial 30+ goal scorer in the NHL (if they reach their potential). A lot of people said Wahlstrom is the best goal scorer in the draft, a true sniper, Kreider isn’t really a sniper.

I'm pretty sure most Ranger fans will agree on speed and size, but not in a million years would agree he uses it. He basically is their Brock Nelson at times

Kreider hasn’t been the same since the Carey Price incident

He looks so happy everytime he dons the blue and orange.

Bit of a yawn for me..

So Zadina, Wahlstrom, Wild.... Seems like the hip thing to do is say anyone who passed on me will regret it

The funny thing is if you check out the Ranger board, Wahlstrom was the apple of their eye before and still after the draft. After the draft, lots of people unhappy that we got Dobson too.

Hey everyone, more of a reader than a poster here...

I keep watching videos of this dude and he looks absolutely insane. Is the consensus that Wahlstrom and Bellows need more time in the oven? The biggest knock that I seem to find on Wahlstrom is that he doesn't back-check hard enough - but as other posters seem to think Trotz can turn around Jane's lazy play, might it be possible for him to do that with Wahlstrom?

Just thinking out loud (and in this scenario, Tavares re-signs), but if they both started the year with the NHL team, we could find a way to deal Lee and Nelson to help fix the D.

Beauvillier - Tavares - Wahlstrom
Bellows - Barzal - Eberle
Ladd - Bailey - Ho-Sang
Johnston - Czikas - Clutterbuck

I know we just gave Bailey a 5m contract and that's a bit much to play on the third line (not even beginning to mention him moving back to C), but if they continue playing 4 forwards on the PP, he likely stays on the PP1 in some capacity and still puts up 50-55 points.

So we are going to sell Tavares on re-siging, so that he can play with Beauvillier and an 18 year old?

Yikes

Be nice...

Wahlstrom is probably best served going to BC (a solid program) and he's going to be a major player for Team USA in the WJC. We can evaluate again next year.

Bellows could definitely be in the mix this year. Not that it's ideal, but Lee is our biggest trade piece and Bellows is a cheap and homegrown option. Barzal helping out Bellows could work and Beauvillier and Bailey flanking Tavares could work too. Upgrade that defense.

In the video interview he says the Islanders have been a powerhouse organization for a long time?
