Then why is he not signed yetEvery credible report out there says Matthews is staying.

No worries on the D and depth at centre. Future Hall if Famer bench boss plans on running the 7 D, 3 centres all yearI hope we are. I love the Bert and Domi moves, I do think it makes our top nine better (I'm not convinced Domi won't be on the third line yet, and I like the thought of it), but our defense on the whole took a hit from where we were at the end of last year. I think we're better built for the playoffs with the additions, but I do worry a bit about giving up more goals with the cards we've shuffled.
Yes you can't build team chemistry from the TDL to the start of the playoffs. The other important aspect not mentioned is that the players that have been brought in will be here for the entire season. ROR was brought in at the trade deadline which left very little time for him to to gel with the team and his line-mates. Dubas did that multiple trade-deadlines in a row with negligible positive results. Domi and Bertuzzi aren’t rentals, they’re here for the entire season which will make a big difference in terms of team chemistry.
Another positive is that we didn’t have to mortgage the future by giving up a bunch of draft picks and prospects to bring them in.
You can sometimes fit in one guy in on Cup contending team, but it seems to takes a year before big acquisition help a team get over the hump.Yes you can't build team chemistry from the TDL to the start of the playoffs.
It seems as though dubas was doing it every yr. I hope this practice has stopped with treliving.
Only having Lafferty and McCabe to show for it.
I think they are better. Sure they made it past round one but post trade deadline the team actually looked a lot worse to end the regular season and in the first round against Tampa than they did in the previous 2 seasons.
I agree the Defense could take 2 yrs for treliving to get what he wants. You can sometimes fit in one guy in on Cup contending team, but it seems to takes a year before big acquisition help a team get over the hump.
Thats why they need to add as many pieces this year to get acclimatized and maybe go on a run after they get cap relief.
They need too much, so it may not happen.

Who says it's delayed? What’s the delay?
I’m looking forward to seeing the difference between Domi and Ekblad:
As opposed to Bunting getting beat up vs Florida and getting the Ekblad bear hugs:
He has limited resources other than trading one of the core. At this point, do they keep the core if they will sign reasonable contracts, then use JTs money to bolster the D?I agree the Defense could take 2 yrs for treliving to get what he wants.
The last thing a team needs is pushback. You need guys that wear a murse to the game and giggle as they get rag-dolled.Domi was suspended for that cheap shot... doesn't really scream "I'm tough" by sucker punching someone.
Not sure the two situations are comparable, one maybe makes Bunting look weak, and the other one is likely hurting your team.

Fair enough. I’m actually not worried but many posters and hockey media claim he is not going anywhere and that’s probably true but these things aren’t rocket science and could be worked out in a few days if both sides are on the same page, and if they are not…………They have a year to work it out... they've had 10 days to work out details so far.
I'd start worrying a little bit come game 1 of the season, but right now, no reason to get worried.
He was eligible to sign on July 1st. Isn’t that something that you would think both parties would want to get done and out of the way so that Treliving could get on with the business of finishing out the rosterWho says it's delayed?
They work on their schedule, not yours.

Has Matthews not being done stopped Toronto from making moves?
No it hasn't
How is he being prevented from filling out the roster? He was eligible to sign on July 1st. Isn’t that something that you would think both parties would want to get done and out of the way so that Treliving could get on with the business of finishing out the roster

You don't know, we don't know. Nobody knows if there would be more moves, or not, pending on the signings of Matthews and/or Nylander.
Sure you can say that I don't know if more could be done, but I do know that not having them extended hasn't stopped moves from happening.
I know that because Bertuzzi, Domi, Klingberg, Reaves and Gambrell are all here.
That's 5 players, realistically how much more would you expect?
Maybe to help the team out by letting us know how much he is going to cost us. That way we can plan better for other contracts. What’s the rush?
