Is this his only thing of note? It's all I see Habs fans talking about. "He was our OT hero!" One good play? I literally can't find anything else noteworthy this guy has done.

He has always hit another level in the playoffs, from the SHL (MVP) to the Rangers series in 2017 to the last couple of Covid playoff years.

Easily one of our best and most consistent forwards in every playoff run.

The price is steep (and thank you for Barron, I wanted to trade down for him in 2020), but you won't even remember it in couple of months.

Those disappointed with giving up Barron, that's fine. But I ask you where was he going to play? With Makar, Toews, Byram, Girard and possibly Manson all in the longer term future, there wasn't much space for him.

In turn we got a quality 3rd liner, which we desperately needed, that could be a difference maker in a potential Cup run. I'd much prefer a guy who can help try and win a cup than a buried prospect, who had performed ok this year in the AHL.

Very excited for this, as most have said it sucks to lose Barron, but if the Avs win the cup, its all worth it. Lets go!

Virtually every other 3rd line, quality bottom 6 player mentioned as a possibility are UFA this summer. Sakic deserves high marks for a) getting a quality player who is RFA and b) not sacrificing yet another 1st round pick.

In the last 10 days this team has added Manson, Lehkonen, Sturm, and Cogs and the only roster player they shipped out is Jost. Add to that Byram now on the mend and you've got a much better team going forward.

It's just bizarre to me that Buchnevich goes for a 2nd + Blais on the offseason, and then all these players worse than him go for significantly more as teams get caught in an arms race at the TDL. Cap definitely plays a big factor into it, but the Avs or other teams could've found a way to make the cap work (cough* Compher).

I have no issue with any of the trades, as long as they can be re-signed. Personally think Joe navigated this deadline beautifully.

It’s two things. The cap is a huge factor in the offseason when you have to take on the full cap hit, haven’t accrued any space, probably aren’t going to be using LTIR. Secondly, Buchnevich would have gone for more if Drury hadn’t been told to collect every physical player that he could. NYR wanted Blais, it’s not like we could have acquired him for a similarly cheap price

Just saw the snippet of Joe talking about Artturi. The way he worded it, to me, sounded like the plan is to play Cogliano and Lehkonen with Newhook.

Cogs/Hook/Lehk

That would probably mean, once Landy comes back, that LOC would likely sit with the 4th line being Helm/Sturm/JTC

Did anyone else listen to it?

I hope not, Cogliano on the third line would be a disaster...

The Avs are basically adding an entire 5 man unit this week:

Cogliano - Sturm - Lehkonen
----- Byram -- Manson -----

Boom!

Hey, cool, Lehkonen will now find great company in Bura and Compher as players who miss wide open f***ing nets and A+ chances all the time. Hey, put them on a line together and maybe one will be bound to finally hit it? And all it took was giving up a future superstar blue-liner!

Sorry, maybe I'm just being overly pessimistic/miserable, but I don't feel much optimism towards today's moves. Another second-round exit is so close I can taste it.

I think most of us don't think Barron is going to become a superstar defensemen. Also, some of us think Lehk's salary retention & RFA status are positives, and think that for this play-off run, he improves our chances of advancing beyond the second round. I also think that a lot of people think that the Avs have a pretty good chance of advancing beyond the second round even without Lehk, but that he improves those odds. He addresses a need (which isn't putting the puck in the net, in many peoples opinions, many people think the Avs weakness is not goal scoring, and that they do good at that, already, and that losing Barron won't end up negatively impacting our goal scoring output) and is a playoff built player, in many people's views. It's fine to have totally different views, though. Always a bummer to be disappointed, and not think this team is destined for maxing out at the 2nd round.

No. He's a good defensive 3rd line winger. He scores on average 15 goals every 82 games form the 3rd line. He can help in the top 6 for a short while when there's injury without looking out of place. Good playoffs player.

He'll misses lot of chances but that's what should be expected from pretty much all 3rd line players.

Lehkonen-Newhook-O'Connor would be a fun line, could be one of those lines that ends up being an absolute nightmare to play against since they are just on you and relentless.

O'Connor needs to be on the 4th line to limit his minutes so that he can go all-out every single shift. He doesn't have the hockey brain or skill to fall back on when he gets tired.

Sakic also said in the offseason that Maltsev would be the teams 4C. I wouldn't put too much stock into what he says about line combinations, because it'll be Bednar who decides that sort of stuff.
