Hi guys, just wanted to come in and say that I'm glad that Lehkonen ended up with the Avalanche, a team with a legitimate shot at making a long run in the playoffs. Of course, Lehkonen should also help with that goal.

I'm very sad to see him go. I am a big fan of his; I always defended him when fans tried to scapegoat him. I was on the road all day, so I don't know the perception of the fans on trade, but you guys receive a very good player. One that is very disciplined, never takes a shift off and that is relentless on the forecheck; he's a very tiring opponent for any defenseman.

Again, I'm super sad to see him go. I wish we had not traded him. I had no allegiance for the playoffs this year, but it now lies with the Avalanche and Lehkonen. Last year, he scored the biggest goal I've had the chance to witness for the Habs as I was 3 in 1993. I hope that he scores that goal for you guys too.

As a fan, it truly sucks. But I'm happy for him. I'm sure he'll thrive with your team.

Cheers everyone 🍻
Thank you mate, agree on everything you said. On the flipside, you got a.player back dripping with potential (and a prospect many here are disappointed to see go).

But as you said, we are a Cup contender, and are in win now mode, so sometimes you have to give to get.

I'd say this is a win / win for both clubs. Lehkonen will become a fan favourite here really fast. We are a tough fanbase, but if a player shows compete, hard work, puck possession and makes his linemates better, he'll be loved imminently.

Cheers.

Steep price but he's an RFA and he can help the team. His speed and forechecking game will fit in perfectly with the Avs. Could also end up being a replacement for Nuke if he walks.

I don't think Joe wanted to give up Barron, but he was forced to move ether Barron or their 1st to get a good layer, and probably decided to trade for the RFA instead of the UFA, and Montreal wanted Barron.

I think people here got talked into thinking Barron isn't that good though because he wasn't he preference for some. He's gonna be pretty good. Would have fit well as an EJ replacement, but hopefully they can resign Manson now.

There is no denying that the return is very good. But I'm emotionally attached to Lehkonen, which I'm not (yet) to Barron and eventual 2nd round pick. Heck, the only thing I know about Justin Barron is his name haha.

Anyway, I'm sure he'll give you guys what you were looking for and then some. Plus, as a pending RFA, he should be around for a while too. I wish success to the Avalanche, for Lehkonen, of course, but also for the organization that had enough respect for him and his play to be willing to pay that price to acquire him. Plus Sakic will always be a favorite of mine too. And the actual team; everything you like about hockey is on that team. Plus, both our teams will always be linked through Patrick Roy imo.

I don't know how welcome outside posters are on your forum; I don't want to overstay my welcome, but I'd like to hang around and chat here come playoff time.

As promised earlier here are some analytics. He's an elite two-way player at 5v5, and a better PK'er than these metrics indicate.

You're always welcome here mate. We are a very accommodating group, and quite open minded. Stay as long as you like.

I would make one recommendation though. Like AVS, why don't you trade up, and just start supporting the best team in the world - US?
There's no better team in the world to support. We are FUNNNN to watch. We are fast, skilled, talented and compete to the end. We'd
welcome you to the family mate ! Hehehe

I still can't believe Vegas played Lehner over Fluery that game...

New Nuke. That's a lot to give up and more than I thought it'd take but he was my top target so I'm happy they got it done. He's going to help a lot this year and going forward. Really the perfect type of player for this management/coaching staff. Put him anywhere in the lineup and good things will happen.

All the best to Barron in MTL. Too bad the Habs didn't want Behrens instead.

Freaking love this 99.9% and the other 0.01% is that he isn't a centre (Love him more than Copp, but didn't think Habs would have gotten rid of an RFA). He's a brilliant player and I promise you lot Lehkonen will fit in within the Avs system considering his attributes with Bednar's tactics. I really want to see how good he'll be with Newhook because I suggest that Artturi's offence is underappreciated and will be better with the Avs. Also I am not too worried about what we traded up; PJ Stock had a graph today that mentioned 2nd rounders tend to have only a 46% success rate of playing more than one-hundred NHL games. Losing Barron hurts as it did with Helleson, since we have no more right-handers in the system, but I am still under the perception that Barrons' are found in every draft. Still, that value is quite good considering that Oilers gave up a 2nd rounder for freaking Kulak (LOL) and that Copp brought back Barron's bro (who is an underrated prospect) and two 2nd round conditional picks. Avs did amazing here if you consider what happened around the league, plus Lehkonen is an RFA that we can re-sign or trade for at least a 1st rounder back.

I don't think I agree with you on Barron. Yes, he's a big mobile RHD with some offensive skill, great. BUT, as I've mentioned on here before (I think it was in a conversation with @henchman24 or @S E P H a few weeks ago) there are legit concerns about Barron in the DZ that make me a bit skeptical that he'll reach his ceiling.

To be more specific, in watching all our preseason games this year I noticed that Barron seemed to really struggle a lot with tracking his man in the zone (especially in the crease area) as well as gap control which I found weird considering how good of a skater he is.

I haven't watched much of the Eagles this year but I'd nonetheless guess that he has improved some of those weaknesses as he's received some coaching from Eagles head coach Cronin who has a great track-record of developing NHL Dmen with the Islanders (De Haan, Mayfield, etc) and Colorado (Graves, Timmins), so I'd guess that he still pans into a 2nd pairing guy at the NHL level.

I hope things work out for Barron in Montreal, but with how good and young the Avs blueline is right now I don't think he'll be missed all that much. Especially if we re-sign Manson which I do think Sakic will try to do.
Barron was a solid prospect, but screamed too much vanilla for me. I mean you need those players in your system, on your team, and I liked his athletic attributes the best. He's like a Justin Braun who could skate at the modern game's pace, but he isn't like Behrens that reads the game at such a higher level. I suggest that he'll hit his potential, which is a mid-pairing two-way defenceman that isn't great in any zone, but is good in every zone. The higher his IQ develops for the pro game, the more he'll become a solid #3, but I don't expect anything else than that.

To prove my point, I actually went back to the drafts from 2016 to 2022 to showcase that he's a dime-a-dozen prospect that any team can find if they have a late first. That doesn't mean these players suck or anything, but more in regards to that he's replaceable...atleast for me.

2016: Dante Fabbro, Logan Stanley, Dennis Cholowski, & Libor Hajek
2017: Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Henri Jokiharju, Conor Timmins, & Nicolas Hague
2018: Ryan Merkley, K'Andre Miller, Nils Lundkvist, Ramus Sandin, Alexander Alexeyev, & Matthias Samuelsson.
2019: Ville Heinola, Tobias Bjornfot, Ryan Johnson & Jackson LaCombe
2020: Shakir Mukhamadullin, Justin Barron, William Wallinder, & Helge Grans
2021: Corson Ceulemans, Carson Lambos, Logan Mailloux, & Olen Zellweger
2022: Tristan Luneau, D, Kevin Korchinski, Arseni Koromyslov & Denton Mateychuk

Some of those were early second rounders. Obviously we don't have a 1st for this year, but wanted to include some picks to showcase what I meant via McKenzie's latest ranking. I am a fan of Luneau. This doesn't include David Spacek, Seamus Casey, Bogdans Hodass, Isaiah George, and Michael Mastrodomenico who are other names I like. Spacek and George top that "other list" for me.

Great 5 on 5 stats, surprised he's not that good on the PK?

Could be the team he's on? He was fine on the PK last year in the playoffs from what I've watched.

Habs are 29th on the PK this year. Not having Weber, Savard, Pitlick, or Price most of, if not all of the year probably didn't help, as did losing Danault as a UFA. I think he'll be fine on the PK.
Also, not having a tender (most important killer) sucks. The Avs PK stunk in large part because Kuemper was still finding his game. I imagine the PK has been alot better since November. Lehkonen on the PK should help unless Pratt does something stupid.
