If his wingers are Lehkonen and LOC I think he'll end up being okay.
Hopefully. Just a big risk to have a rookie playing that 3C role in such a crucial year of a cup window. Also LOC should be on the 4th line. But I hope Newhook can handle it.

I guess one is a physical phenom and unique player and the other is not. Guess which one.
I love Nuke as does everyone here. But stylistically and production wise him and Lehkonen are basically identical.

And obviously I want to sign Nuke long term.

Top 6 next season:

Landeskog-Mackinnon-Rantanen
Lehkonen-Newhook-Nichuskin (please re-sign him)

Don't even have to acquire a UFA.
I would love to see that. If we still have leftover money, it should be spent on another Top-6 caliber player.

Lehkonen and Rantanen played for the same club in Finland, but did not get much of a chance to play together. Rantanen was in U18 when Lehkonen was in U20, then the following year Lehkonen moved to another club for more Liiga icetime. They have trained together though, as recently as last summer. Hope Rants can convince him to re-sign here!

TImmins+1st+Helleson+2nd+Barron+2nd for Kuemper+ Manson+Lehkonen. Steep price but they return were all needs.
In retrospect there were no really bad desperation deals by Joe. He stayed out of the market over the weekend when some real reaches happened. Losing two D prospects and some 2nds isn't ideal, but very replaceable especially if there was going to be a signing issue with Helleson.

Half of Vancouvers team was in trade rumors and not much happened.
I think they made a mistake. Benning basically left that team with a prospect pool as barren as the Avs', with a cap situation that is a lot like the Avs' (top young players all on second contracts, key pending RFAs/UFAs), but a significantly worse overall team. The new group in Vancouver, IMO, needed to take that team into a serious ~2 year retool. Instead they've kicked the can down the road to the offseason, where I don't think they'll be getting better returns if they do choose to sell.

The fact that, leading up to the deadline, there were right on the cusp of a playoff spot and then their group of guys went out and lost three straight games, two of them to freaking Detroit and Buffalo, should have about said it all.

I am stoked that we have a two way winger on each line to support our C's. But.. if we were better at drafting (cough Kaut, cough Bowers), we wouldn't be needing to pay a premium for it. Wish our amateur scouts were as good as our pro scouts.

Decent Job by Sakic to keep the 2023 1st in a deep draft, a lot of Montreal fans were expecting to get one. At the very least, he retains some futures for next deadline.

What? We paid significantly less then Tampa paid for Hagel.
Barron + 2nd is slightly less than 2 very late 1sts, probably need to add another 2nd/3rd to be equivalent value.

Both Katchouk and Raddysh were worth between a 3rd-5th. Not a significant difference.

Very valid point and I hope the rebuild of the scouting team continues with more changes. I believe there is a real generational gap that will have a massive change to scouting over the next few years and hope the Avs are at the cutting edge of it. Guys scouting on feel and intangibles are getting shown the door while guys who look for specific skill sets and can watch video of every game to find how consistent they are is going to change scouting.

Like this move a lot.

Barron, while a solid prospect wasn’t needed with Makar, Toews, Girard, and Byram on the roster next season. Possibly Manson too.

Lekhonen will bring a defensive identity to the bottom-6 to go along with depth scoring.

Colorado didn’t need a star they have several. They needed more depth and they got it.

Honestly, not a fan, but I understand options were limited and I'm happy Sakic finally paid the price to make the team better at the deadline. Was pretty high on Barron, I think in a few years he ends up being one of the steals of that draft because of his injury issues.

I don't think I agree with you on Barron. Yes, he's a big mobile RHD with some offensive skill, great. BUT, as I've mentioned on here before (I think it was in a conversation with @henchman24 or @S E P H a few weeks ago) there are legit concerns about Barron in the DZ that make me a bit skeptical that he'll reach his ceiling.

To be more specific, in watching all our preseason games this year I noticed that Barron seemed to really struggle a lot with tracking his man in the zone (especially in the crease area) as well as gap control which I found weird considering how good of a skater he is.

I haven't watched much of the Eagles this year but I'd nonetheless guess that he has improved some of those weaknesses as he's received some coaching from Eagles head coach Cronin who has a great track-record of developing NHL Dmen with the Islanders (De Haan, Mayfield, etc) and Colorado (Graves, Timmins), so I'd guess that he still pans into a 2nd pairing guy at the NHL level.

I hope things work out for Barron in Montreal, but with how good and young the Avs blueline is right now I don't think he'll be missed all that much. Especially if we re-sign Manson which I do think Sakic will try to do.

Newhook has been better than Compher this season. Don't think we'll see Compher get those extended minutes.

Pretty happy with the trade, but the fact that we’ve traded away Timmins, Barron and Helleson in a span of less than 10 months does make me a bit worried about the future. Would have liked to keep atleast one, but I guess you really can’t help it.

Sakic’s done more than enough of his part though.
It’s up to the players and Bednar now. Let’s go!!!!

This is the guy I wanted so I’m happy. Makes everyone around him better and RFA rather than pure rental. Disappointed to still have Compher but whatever.

IMO we need to keep both him and Nuke. They’re both game changers and can significantly elevate one line each

I do like Lehkonen so I'm happy with the trade. Doesn't really put the Avs over the top by any means.

Yeah... I don't think Barron is that huge of a loss. He's a good prospect and could be a better skating Graves, but he isn't a core level piece in the future and Lehk helps the Avs a lot more during this run and likely going forward.
