They should trade him... to the leafs :)

Seriously speaking, they shouldn't trade him unless they are serious about a rebuild. Hes the guy that can garner a good chunk of young assets. The longer they wait, the lower the haul gets. As this team gets worse, so will his numbers (by result of being on bad team). If they were to start a rebuild TODAY they would be exactly 2 seasons away from starting the progression again into a good team. 2 years of hell but a core of

Horvat
Virtanen
Juolevi
1st 2017 (1-3)
1ST 2018 (1-3)
Markstrom
Gudbranson

+ assets from Tanev, Edler, Sutter, Burrows, Hansen

The leafs just went through this

Horvat - Kadri
Virtanen - Nylander
Juolevi - Rielly
1st 2017 - Marner
1st 2018 - Matthews
Markstrom - Andersen
Gudbranson - Gardiner

The Canucks have a lot of tangible and trade-able assets that the leafs didnt even have going into our rebuild. The canucks dont have a lot of big burden contracts. In my mind, come trade deadline the Canucks should be fire selling (and i think they will).

Your fellow leafs fans are gonna rip you apart for these comparisons.

They might have to. They really need to full on tank this year. Their number one priority needs to be getting Nolan Patrick.

I don't understand this logic..."We have this really good, young, cost-effective player who's everything you could ever want in a defenseman. Should we trade him?"

Unless you do a Weber-for-Subban swap, if you trade Tanev you're just going to end up with a big hole on defense and put yourself in the market for a Tanev type defenseman. So...why do it at all?

Tanev, McCann, plus the 2 picks in rounds 2 and 4 vs. gudbranson, 5th round pick, and whatever the return for tanev.

Are we seriously talking about this?

Talking about a neutral sum deal at the end of the day. Leaves the nucks putting pizza into the top 4, which means no shot at playoffs.

To obtain players in the 22-26 age group, this management team and aqua man should be moving out heir 30 year olds.

Like the rangers moved brassard for MZ. Deal saves them 5 years in youth. But the canucks are swapping out picks and youngsters in the 19-21 group for these 22-26 year olds. Baffling.....

We DON'T need a rebuild here nor would the fickle fan base accept one. We are trying to stay competitive while developing our young core, I would rather see this than a team that gives up, or a team that lets it's young core take the reigns and then that destroys the development of the youth.

We need our 30 year olds to do this, the Sedin's and Eriksson will be a 70/70/70 point line, seems pretty exciting to me.

You might want to re-read Street Hawk's post. Street Hawk talked about Sbisa being in the Top 4 IF Tanev were to be traded.

Whoops my bad, he is still wrong though.

Even if Tanev was traded Sbisa is LHD anyways Tryamkin would be given a shot before him.

It's Botchford, he's an Uber negative tool who often writes and speaks trash on the radio in an effort to be "controversial". . . He's so transparent it's ridiculous and sane fans usually just tune him out

I think next year Sbisa will proove to be higher on the d depth then Goober and Trammer but Trammer could really rise but will see:

Edler
Tanman
Hutty
Sbisa
Trammer
Goober
Biega
Pedan

Yah I disagree with this, plus Benning already said that Gudbranson will be paired with Hutton. They aren't going to put Sbisa with Hutton for multiple reasons.
Edler-Tanev
Hutton-Gudbranson
Sbisa-Tryamkin

That would be guess on how the chips will fall.

I don't understand why they would trade Tanev, even from reading that article. Because his value is high? If they trade Tanev they would be looking to add a guy like Tanev

After seeing what Taylor Hall returned, I want a lot for the Canucks most steady defenceman. He's a tier above Larsson and that's being generous to Larsson.
Unless the Avs are looking at doing a swap, Tanev and his signed contract for Barrie and his arbitration not a lot I'd really be interested in other teams would be willing to move. I'd give Barrie 6x6 full NTC if the Avs made that move.
