Tanev is young enough to still a top-pairing D in 5 years when we might be starting to get good again.

He is also probably still going to be a pretty decent #3-4 D through his mid 30s, so i'd be happy to keep him around. He allows you to bring young prospects through slower and manage their minutes.

Additionally, the fact he's not going to put up many points means he probably won't cost us an arm and a leg either.

I don't think there's many who don't think the Canucks should take a more active approach to re-building. But there are other assets they should (and should have) trade, like Edler and Hansen, for picks to help accomplish that.

I actually think this would be a poor time to trade Tanev. He's a great d-man but he's still not really considered a top d-man which he could be.

Hansen is the Canuck who should be moved IMO. He's cheap, coming off his best season and is what every team looks for in a PK 3rd/2nd line forward that can hit, skate and has speed.

Man Tanev is still pretty underrated…you've got a beauty 'Nucks fans, I'd keep him if I were you because you probably won't get fair value. However if you really do feel like trading him please keep your old friends the Flames in mind.

I'd love Tanev on the Kings, but don't think we have the pieces to get him.

Tanev likely won't ever be considered a top Dman as long as he's in Vancouver anyways. It comes down to what teams are offering for him whenever an actual rebuild happens instead of an impossible retool.

Whats best for the team: No he is a great young player

Whats best for himL his entire prime will be wasted by being on the Nucks and by the time they are contenders again he will have left via UFA or be too old.

Remember what happened last time when Botchford's article was a hot topic here... it turned out to be right.

E: In any way I do not think that trading Tanev is a good idea, as mentioned and proven several times in this thread and other Tanev threads before. He is stupidly good and easily one of the best #2s in the league. If I was a Nucks fan and it happened, I would be very sad.

If Barrie's arbritration case becomes expensive for Col. I can see Barrie being traded and his spot being taken by Tanev

Barrie for a forward elsewhere

Landeskog for Tanev

Tanev fills their replacement 1st line RD dman. And Landeskog fills Bennings need for a young character guy with speed and grit who can score.

Botchford beat around the bush like he is doing now with tanev, like he did with mccann.

I am sure he's heard some rumblings...

Would love him in Toronto. Nylander or a combination of quantity pieces? I doubt Canucks fans would be interested. You just don't move young RHD...Unless you're Montreal

Avs have 7 mil in cap space and all his comparables make around 5. He should get under 6. Avs will be fine and there is no need for them to trade their captain, and thats even if we are assuming Benning is even possible of making a deal he doesn't massively over pay in.

Depends on the return.
my usual policy is for a guy you want above and beyond fair value, you overpay BUT you almost never pay in the currency you do not want to use.

Off the top of my head I don't see a match, but no harm to talk w/NYR. However, Rangers will not pay w/young core: Kreider Miller Zib Skjei etc. We still have several assets the correct side of 30 and other assets that may be a match.

What are your actual and projected needs?

They should trade him... to the leafs :)

Seriously speaking, they shouldn't trade him unless they are serious about a rebuild. Hes the guy that can garner a good chunk of young assets. The longer they wait, the lower the haul gets. As this team gets worse, so will his numbers (by result of being on bad team). If they were to start a rebuild TODAY they would be exactly 2 seasons away from starting the progression again into a good team. 2 years of hell but a core of

Horvat
Virtanen
Juolevi
1st 2017 (1-3)
1ST 2018 (1-3)
Markstrom
Gudbranson

+ assets from Tanev, Edler, Sutter, Burrows, Hansen

The leafs just went through this

Horvat - Kadri
Virtanen - Nylander
Juolevi - Rielly
1st 2017 - Marner
1st 2018 - Matthews
Markstrom - Andersen
Gudbranson - Gardiner

The Canucks have a lot of tangible and trade-able assets that the leafs didnt even have going into our rebuild. The canucks dont have a lot of big burden contracts. In my mind, come trade deadline the Canucks should be fire selling (and i think they will).

Should the Canucks trade Tanev?
Probably not.

Will they?
Ask Benning. Who knows.

Should the Leafs be interested?
I certainly hope so.
No idea of the asking price.

Canucks arent rebuilding. If they were they wouldnt have signed Erikkson for 5 years.

Exactly.

They could've traded Hamhuis to the Stars at the TDL last season for some assets and chose to keep him. Only to left him walk..to Dallas anyway...

Benning's doing it all right..

This. Even more so with the acquisition of Eriksson - Hansen's value will likely never be higher than now.

Having said that, I would like to see him remain as a Canuck.
