He forecheck & backchecks so hard and never gives up on a play, after losing the puck he always comes back chomping at the heels of the player and does whatever to get it back. He was a notorious Ranger killer scoring his first NHL goal against us, first goal as a BlueJacket & both of his 2 career hat tricks against us. Whenever I’ve seen him play he’s looked like the best player in the league, and watching him tonight I never realized how gritty & determined he plays. Torts called him one of the hardest working players in the league. Despite not speaking much English he has an infectious personality and looks like he’s having the time of his life being a Ranger, I think he’ll greatly elevate Buch’s game and mentor all our young Russian players. Still cant believe he’s ours :)

I hope he'll be a good mentor for all the young players but I know what you mean.

It's clearly obvious that Panarin will be the most skilled Ranger and have the most impact on games since the days of Jagr over 10 years ago and it really isn't even close.

Besides his skill level from having watched him in easily over 100+games the past few years having owned him twice in past 4 years in my big $$ fantasy league (I know call me crazy for wanting to watch my guys I own on my NHL Center Ice subscription I stupidly pay for...lol), Panarin's innate ability to mentally anticipate things that haven't happened yet is almost...I almost and I'm hesitating to say this...is almost "Gretzkyish".

I know I'm going to get panned for saying that....lol

That line looked like they have been playing together for years. Panarin is really something to see with and without the puck. Buch fits in perfectly with these two.

That backhand saucer pass was amazing, and then the pass back for the one timer was unreal. Panarin is going to do some dirty things paired with these guys.

That pass and give and go goal was a disgustingly talented play all around.

I watched the postgame and noticed Panarin doesnt speak any English at all, I would have thought by the amount of time he's been in the league he would have some ability to understand and speak the language

Not judging the player, just an observation

"Now came the interesting part. The locker room. Panarin’s English has improved over the years, they say. He seems to let on that he understands more than he does when it comes to English, and that he can say more than he does, although word is he didn’t do a lot of interviews in Columbus last year."

"Panarin did most of his interview in Russian, with an interpreter, but did some of it in English. Kravtsov did his, again, on his own."

“The first period we weren’t playing so well and we went to the locker room and we spoke and it changed the game,” Panarin said.
“I speak, too,” he then cracked.
“We agreed to play more simple and to get the puck behind the goal.”

Panarin answered a few questions, said the right things about playing hard and the goals and points will come. When he was finished, he apologized for his difficulty and promised to get better.
“I have seven years,” Panarin smiled.

He's too good and will ruin our tank. The only way this will work is if Lafreniere tanks his season on purpose to counteract the lack of Rangers tank while simultaneously ruining his draft stock so the Rangers have a chance at drafting him later on in the 1st round

the 1st this year is deep with players we would be happy to add beyond AL.

When you're that good, you only need to speak hockey. Maybe that's why Buchnevich is playing with them, so he can be the translator between him and Zibanejad. ;)
I was whining alot about the size of his contract, but seeing his impact, I have to eat crow, it was worth it. I know, it's early, but seeing the immediate chemistry between Panarin and Zibanejad is worth it.

I was also surprised at the hustling Panarin does defensively and how smooth he is with his poke check. He steals pucks with ease.

I wasn't a fan of the signing, mostly because I thought the timing was poor (trying to accelerate the rebuild), but I never had any doubt in the kind of player we were getting. He's the perfect blend of skill and hustle that this team usually acquires just after its expiration date.

Agreed on all counts. What I have been pleasantly surprised with is his hustle on the backcheck. Great to see. And he certainly knows how to shoot and when not to overpass in search of perfection.

I love that he can enter the zone without dumping the puck and generate chances right away.
Yes! This stood out to me as a great skill he has. He always makes the right play entering the zone. Even at times when it looks like he's got a man on him and should just dump it he'll cut back and feather a short pass just slow enough for a trailing teammate to catch up to and break in with to maintain possession. Subtle plays like that show a high skill level and awareness.
