Folks think Panarin is a bargain at 6m. Might be. But how many teams will have cap room and the are willing to trade either draft picks or players to acquire RFA Panarin. So the Hawks still have some control in the matter.

Kucherov signed for 4.7 m, Gaudreau for 6.75. What is the "proper" salary for Panarin?

For 6m per, I don't think that they would have much thinking to do, just sign the guy.

When 2 of your players make 1/3rd of the salary cap and you have Keith Seabrook Hjarm etc., there's always plenty to think about.

The hawks depth will be poor at best

Kucherov and Gaudreau are 23, and Panarin is 25. And Kucherov is signed to a bridge contract. What his price is going to be, when he becomes UFA at age 26 or 27?

Not even remotely close.
Why is it that Kapanen is put in every single trade thread by Leaf's fans?

The Hawks have until the summer before he becomes an RFA so they are in no rush.
He'll eventually sign for 6 at $6M, but there are a lot of other moving parts that come into play including expansion, whether the cap will rise again, other player contracts etc.

We all love Kapanen. He's on the cusp of graduating to the majros. He's having a great start of the season with the Marlies and is arguably our top prospect not on the NHL roster.

The fact that we're including him is because he's the best prospect we can give up.

Kasperi Kapanen + JVR + whatever for Panarin if you don't think you'd be able to sign him!

Love the player and a future line of:

Panarin - Matthews - Nylander is absolutely DROOL worthy.

Nothing Toronto has outside of the big three and Rielly shouldn't get Panarin.

I feel like the sabres could afford him and would have some cheaper pieces the hawks might want. I'm not sure if it's a good idea for the sabres, but breadman is pretty darn good so i don't see why it's bad.

thats because almost the entire Leafs team is prospects and young guys and Kapenen is not a starter for Artemi Panarin lol.

That whatever would be one of 3 guys and you penciled 2 of them in as linemates. Are you saying you're willing to give up Marner? That would be quite the overpay with the other pieces, but one of the 3 top young forwards on ELC would pretty much have to be included.

I'm not. Isn't it a preconceived notion that those 3 are untouchable?

JVR + Kapanen + 2nd is the best we could do.

Face it. If the Blackhawks are put in a position to trade him, there aren't many teams who can top that package.

Are you being hyperbolic or do you actually think Panarin is worth Kapanen-JVR- and one of Matthews/Nylander?

No I actually think one of the big 3 would need to be included in a Panarin deal, but I did note that one of them + Kapanen/JVR is an overpay. Panarin would only be moved for cap relief so even Reilly wouldn't work. It would need to be cheap top 6 players preferably with team control. That puts them in a position to want someone on ELC, Toronto has some decent depth but it would take a top end prospect to make Chicago think about it. Any of Toronto's kids could be better than Panarin, but Panarin has been out of this world and won the Calder his first year, he won't come cheap.

Nylander for Panarin makes sense from both sides as a neutral fan, but I think both teams would rather keep their guy. Panarin adds some age without being old, and Nylander adds top end potential without the $6million cap hit next year. Panarin is better right now, but Nylander could catch him as soon as this year, I just don't think there's a trade to be made, both teams hold their pieces. If Toronto doesn't want a blue chip prospect included someone else will beat the offer, Chicago needs cheap talent.

Anisimov, Panarin and Hossa looked very good vs Kings, and Kane was invisible with Toews. So Panarin can play without Kane as well...
