However small the chance, if he regressed the Hawks would be in really bad shape for years. Everything has worked out for them so far though.

Sure, but he showed his absolutely insane talent and hockey IQ this year. It'd take some insane circumstance for him to decline. I'm not sure the term regress can really apply when the only thing he can "regress" to is his one NHL season.

I want him to end up in St.Louis eventually with his BFF. They should've signed him anyway when he was being recommended. :banghead:

And 6 mil is way too low for him!!!

6 years at $6M would be a steal for Panarin.
Bowman will figure out a way to make it work, but it will have to be at the expense of one of their 'core' players. What makes that tough is that almost all of them have no movement/trade clauses.
I could see Kruger being moved, and possibly Seabrook if he has a good year (and agrees to be moved). Anisimov is another option

Guadreau > Panarin

What is he supposedly to taking notes on?

Gaudreau > Panarin isnt totally accurate and really depends on your flavor of player

I will caveat that and say we need to see more of Panarins ability away from Kane (if it happens) as well as his sophomore season, but anyone who watched enough of Panarin saw that he was creating offense for Kane as much as Kane was creating offense for Panarin (ok well maybe not quite as much)

They scored 77 and 78 points respectively last year, its not like its a stark difference.

Both play top line minutes, top line deployment, and extensive PP time.

Gaudreau more of a playmaker and setup man in how he sees the ice and find teammates. Panarin more of a goal scorer in how he attacks and has more of a shooter mentality. Although Gaudreau is no slouch as a goal scorer while Panarin is no slouch of a playmaker either.

Neither has an extensive resume either, Gaudreau has played 2 NHL seasons while Panarin has played 1. Lets see one more season of Panarin and what he does before making that assumption because its too hard to tell given Panarins transition.

Panarin might sophomore slump or he could get better with becoming more comfortable with NA ice now and better communication and chemistry with teammates after learning more English. Have to remember pretty much Anisimov was the only one he could communicate on the ice all season

I'd sign him for that and laugh all the way to the bank, and I expect Chicago to find a way to make that work.

If that is his actual ask, he's definitely making an effort to help Chicago out. He'd definitely get more than that from more than one NHL team.

That's a great deal if you look at it in comparison what all that string of 28-32 year old free agents just go this summer with a slue of 6M-6/8 year deals.

I think it's a fair deal, teams didn't know about him last year he was an unknown commodity. I expect a slight reduction in point production, playing with Kane or not. Gaudreau did it two years in a row and he's not playing with Kane.

Assuming the Blackhawks can't resign him and he has interest and is open to fielding offers from all NHL teams, I doubt most teams would be willing to match what Shero could potentially throw out for Breadman.

Hossa will most likely get claimed in the expansion draft.

He's got an NMC. Even if he could be exposed, I don't see why he would be claimed with the deal he is on.

I think the Hawks should sign Panarin to 6x6M$ right now if they possibly can. It's unlikely that he will lose value, but another season like the last one and he'll gain value. If they can't manage the cap with him for when the new contract kicks in, then that contract is very tradeable.

Pretty sure this is Marian Hossa's last season with the Hawks. Hes getting bought out.

Zero chance of that happening. With a caphit of about 5.5, but only 1m of salary for the last 4 years of his deal, a team like Arizona would definitely target him. He's still an effective top 6 guy despite having a low producing season.

Problem is Hossa would likely retire if traded from Chicago instead of playing any of those 1M years

He will go way of several and suffer "Injury" to be LTIR at end of his career

Hossa has already been battling nagging injuries thru recent years

That's about 1.5 million less per year than I was expecting, and willing to pay. He's a great player, Kane or no Kane. Hossa probably LTIRs next year when his pay is reduced to 1 mil per year.

I think we'd move just about anyone not named Toews, Keith, Kane or Hjalmarsson to fit him. Hell, in a pinch, I think Hammer would get moved to make room, especially if Pokka/Forsling/Kempny impress this year.

Bottom Line: Panarin will be a Hawk for at least the next 6 years. Anybody who thinks they're prying him away from us hasn't seen how important he is to this team. Find other players to pry away via cap issues. He's going nowhere.

So what the problem with his new contract? Is Chicago not sure he's worth what he asks for? Or does he (or his agent) ask for way too much? And has a new season decreased his value or not?

Kasperi Kapanen + JVR + whatever for Panarin if you don't think you'd be able to sign him!

Love the player and a future line of:

Panarin - Matthews - Nylander is absolutely DROOL worthy.

Not even remotely close.
Why is it that Kapanen is put in every single trade thread by Leaf's fans?

The Hawks have until the summer before he becomes an RFA so they are in no rush.
He'll eventually sign for 6 at $6M, but there are a lot of other moving parts that come into play including expansion, whether the cap will rise again, other player contracts etc.

I assume it's because he's the least valuable among the many highly ranked leafs forward prospects. Also because they didn't draft him fans may be less attached.
