I loathe Tom Wilson and wouldn't shed a tear for him to have a lifetime ban.

That said from an objective standpoint that's a 2 minute penalty and no suspension for me.
100%. Reputation call, in my opinion... Still a shit*y play, but he could've done worse (based on history).

He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt anymore.

It was still an illegal high hit to the backside of a defenseless player. Had plenty of space to move.

Doesn't need to be a check to the head to be dirty/illegal
100%. I guess I was more responding to the witch hunt last night than that comment in particular. A lot of the takes were it's a head shot and long suspensions is required.

I guess I just don't see a place for "benefit of the doubt" in this case. The hit is illegal and can be judged on it's own. I would expect someone biased for him to rationalize a hit from the front that targeted the head, and then the benefit would be that he meant to do this or that. But he ran a guy without the puck from behind. And hard. Intent is irrelevant. I just want DOPS to judge this hit and enhance the penalty based on his suspension history. No more, no less.

I will get annoyed if they infer more and slam him for what he did not do. Because they lost that right when they cater to stars. Malkin gets the benefit of the doubt despite causing concussions with illegal hits. How does benefit of the doubt factor into Crosby spearing ROR in the undercarriage? Pretty clear on his intent. Marchand got hooked up a long time.

My issue with this guy is he is an injury for some other player waiting to happen all the time. If there is anyone in the league who might end up actually killing someone in a game I'd lay all my money on Tom Wilson.....and this is just one more example of him showing 0 respect for an opposing player.....and like all the others it was an avoidable and unnecessary hit. He absolutely wants to hurt other players.

I agree with you on Malkin though---he's gotten away with murder numerous times. I remember him slew footing Paul Mara twice in a playoff game on the same shift---no penalty for either.

All fair points. And I do agree with the notion he gets no benefit of the doubt. Too much evidence. But this incident... its cut and dry. Why even get into interpretation? He didn't have incidental/accidental contact. What he did was in and of itself against the rules. No suspension coming by the way.

I'm sick of all of Jacobs' and Lemiuex's employees getting preferential treatment. When you can cause injury and maming with an illegal use of the stick and not get a penalty or a fine, let alone a suspension, how can you send a clear message on anything?

This is 100% the stance they need to take with guys like Wilson. I would rather they call him based on reputation and maybe get the call wrong or exaggerated than let stuff slide. Make these idiots realize if they want to play hockey in the NHL they have to play hockey and not try to injure people. It's pretty simple, and if Wilson can't adjust his game to be successful while not hurting people then get lost.

I mean, the Wilson thing is simple. In the same split second he made the decision to lean toward the player with his arm/shoulder as he skated by, he could have decided instead to use his hip and it would have been an equally effective, non-dangerous hit. His instinct is to cause harm.

The league took the easy way out. Another suspension for him was going to have to be significant and they didnt want to give that out. Instead they gave nothing. If it was his first infraction they would have given him a game or 2

Do any of you cba junkies know if nylander is allowed to sign an offer sheet today?

today's deadline is about being eligible to play this season. he could technically sign a contract or offer sheet tomorrow but he won't be allowed to play for the rest of this season

I've heard people say here that hockey players aren't afraid of anything. Having played a bit I can only say that a player like Wilson would be one to be afraid of because you don't know when you're back is turned to him or when he's coming in at an angle how he's going to take you out.....and nobody whether they're being paid for playing or not wants knee surgery and all the rehab time or have to live in a darkened room for several months because they can't cope with the light turned on. When I saw Wilson hit Aston-Reese last year---that was about as f***ed up as you can get. He could have straight lined him into the boards--99.99 % of the other players in the league would have done that if they were going to hit him at all--even guys like Gudas or Emelin. Instead he curls around Aston-Reese to the other side and catches him square in the head and that's a malice aforethought predatory hit as far as I'm concerned. He knew exactly what he was doing.

I doubt he gets moved. There has been absolutely 0 rumors or leaked reports of him moving.
