Honestly, I don't think anyone should think McDonagh's contract is fantastic because of Subban's. Everyone should have already thought McDonagh's contract was great. If anything, people should look at Subban's contract (as well as Toews and Kane's respective deals) and feel better about Lundqvist's.

There was a decent part of the main board who said McD was overpaid a little. There were also the isles fans laughing at us because Hamonic was better than McD and he was making a million less.

Ridiculous (on the Stepan contract speculation)

stepan's next contract will be $6+ mil based on his play and the current market value not brassard's contract which is below what he would have gotten anyway

It's not a steal, but it does lock up one of the league's best defensemen until right after he turns 33. They bought out his entire prime. Paying Markov and Emelin almost $10 million per year for the next three seasons is a lot more questionable.

I don't really think PK is all that overpaid. The rangers saw them last year after a very physical and demanding series against Boston in which PK played too many minutes. He was the only Habs d-man who could remotely keep up with Kreider or Hagelin and couldn't do it all. It happens. I'd take him at that contract.
