Lundqvist was the best goalie in the world from mid-December to mid-June.

He's the best goalie in the game.

I'm at the point where I don't think it's debatable.

At this point most of the world agrees with you.

His run to the finals cemented him above Quick. As if he wasn't already there.

NY State tax is 8.82% on taxable income of more than $1,029,251 (according to google). So that's still less than 6M. Now if he also chose to live in NYC that would add another 3.876%, but not all Rangers do.

Bottom line is he overplayed his hand thinking that since the Rangers typically grossly overpay, they would do the same for him. Turned out that was not the case. He should have taken the 6x6 when he had the chance. I'm glad for Rangers fans he was too stupid to do so. Also happy we get a 2nd round pick back.

The sticking point was not money--it was a no trade clause. It came right out of the mouth of Sather after the trade.

This situation, the no-trade was the one thing that really bothered me in the end. If you look at what’s going on today with some of the other players we’ve talked about, you give too much away when you give that no-trade contract up, it really ties your hands. I know it’s nice for the player to have security but no-trade, no-yell-at is a tough deal.â€

Some people have a very short memory.

laughable that he wanted 49/7 from us and then hours before he can start talking to other teams as a ufa he settles for 5.5 per for 5 years.

Yep he's a dummy but whatever msl did well , 5 yrs at that is still too much

So it's msl , 2nd for Cally , 2 firsts and 7th

The Rangers would get TB's 2nd in 2015 and TB would receive the Rangers 7th in 2015

Callahan,1st round pick in 2014,1st round pick in 2015 and 7th round pick in 2015 for MSL and a 2nd round pick in 2015

Hopefully TB has one of their up and down years. Its a 2nd round pick in the top ten. The Rangers pick ends up in late teens to early 20's in the first round. 20 or so pick difference. TB lost in 7 games to Boston in the east finals in 2011 and then missed the playoffs for two straight years. TB had a surprisingly good year in 13-14 with Bishop in net. That is a very young team. They can go either way.

The Rangers would have two second round picks,a third,a fourth and a sixth in 2015.

The first and seventh would go to TB. The 5th was sent to VAN for Diaz.

Yay please sign there Cally. Give us something back. 5.5/6 years is still overpaid but hey, maybe he can get a point in the playoffs next year.

In retrospect, great trade by Sather to get an elite player and an additional asset and get to the SCF.

Do they get to the SCF with Callahan and no MSL? I doubt it.

Callahan was a big fat zero in the Montreal series.

Callahan breakdown: $6 M/ $6.4 M/ $6.5 M/ $6.5 M/ $4.7 M/ $4.7 M. For an AAV of $5.8 M per

$5.8m per in take home pay is about equivalent to $6.4m in NY. Number isn't that far off from where they were. NTC is the kicker. Also include that cost of living in Tampa is far less than it is in NYC or suburbs.

Good deal for Callahan. I don't think he stays effective for 6 years but that's TB's problem.

I'm glad he found a new home in a beautiful area though. Good for him. Rangers get another 2nd in next year draft which is a plus.

He could've got that same contract here. Unsure how I feel about this.

He isn't worth that money on any planet for the skill he possesses. As overrated as they come in the talent area.

I will miss his heart and effort, but we are better off without him.

Would anyone here package Marc Staal to land Evander Kane?

Yeah, Evander Kane as an asset blows Marc Staal out the water as an asset.

But LW has Hags, (Hopefully Poo) and Kreider. I would target that elusive center. Bryan Little, but that's a pipedream.

So, so happy the Rangers didn't sign that kind of deal for Callahan . And, the thought of giving Staal that kind of deal makes me queasy.
