He's still a rat, dirty player, diver and even told his trainer that he stayed down because 'he was trying to draw five'.

Still hell of a player. I think he is right up there with Parise and Crosby in lower body strength by dominating the boards, despite a lower height frame.

Sure. I didn't say he's an honest, stand-up guy. He's a rat and a dirty player and a diver, but he's also a tough guy to play against, mostly because he's all of those other things, and also because he has more offensive skill than most guys who play that type of game.

Yeah, because that's all he does. :shakehead

Sounds like fans of every other team talking about Avery. Marchand plays a role and he plays it well.

Right. I forgot the diving.

I'm not denying that he's a good player, but the love for him can be really over the top.

Avery never got suspended for anything that happened on the ice. It's funny when people say that he was a dirty player.

All I can say about Crosby's antics last night is: LOL

Shove Rask, just like you did to Lundqvist. Then hide and talk **** because you're being protected by the linesmen and your teammates. Skill aside, he is the biggest disgrace to hockey.

Props to Rask for making him look like a child... I was waiting for Rask to pounce on his face.

I don't love him. I think he's a solid addition to any team, like many, many other players around the league are, and I think Boston has done a good job of getting a lot of guys who are intimidating or bothersome or both. I think that's one of their biggest strengths and it's been working for them the past few years.

I'm not saying Avery was dirtier than Marchand, or really very dirty at all, but talking to fans of other teams about him led to the same reductionist stuff that talking about Marchand here is leading to. He's not just a pest, he's not just a dirty player, a diver, etc. He can put up 40 points, play an acceptable 2-way game and get in the oppositions heads. If a Rangers draft pick were doing that in NY, we'd all be ga-ga for him, and for good reason. Marchand is a rat, but if he were our rat, I'd be real happy about it.

Well of course we'd be happy.

I just said that he's not a "tough customer." He's bothersome to play against, but he's not tough. Lucic is tough.

Absolutely the reason why I was so pissed when he wasn't resigned last year and then retired... Rangers NEED that kind of spark.

But he's done for. Oh well, I suppose Dorsett will have to do

Agreed, he is truly one of a kind.

I think the Marchand vs. Kreider debates discussed on here 2 yrs ago should be re-addressed. ;)

CHL may consider banning European Goalies. :shakehead

http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/Junior/2013/05/31/20863856.html?cid=rsssportsslam! hockey

CHL commissioner Dave Branch has expressed concern at the lack of Canadians making their mark, be it the NHL where the Vezina Trophy finalists all are European, to the starters on three of the four Stanley Cup finalists to the CHL’s top goalie, Czech-born Patrik Bartosak of the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels.

Don Cherry is foaming in his mouth at the thought of this.

Don't think it will change the fact that European goalies will still be "better" just keeps them in Europe longer playing against older competition.

They would be doing this because they haven't addressed the real issues with the state of Canadian goaltending, and, apparently, don't have a strong interest in doing so. They recently let go Ron Tugnutt (former NHL goalie with Quebec, Edmonton, Montreal, Anaheim, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Ottawa and Dallas) who had been in charge of goaltender development.

The question would be with the defensive system oriented hockey being prevalent in North America in the last 15-20 years, how has that affected the development of goaltenders? Are they being trained properly? They need to take a long hard look at these things to see what needs to be done to help Canadian goaltenders. Banning Euro goalies doesn't address that.

you'd think somebody whose jaw is held together by will-power would be less of a chippy little *****... but hey ho. if he keeps mouthing off to chara like that all series, it'll be fun to watch.

Cyndi hasn't taken off the "No Contact" jersey he was wearing after his dental work, still gets mortally offended if anyone dares to make contact with him.

So manly he was last night, confronting the goalie, taking crap to Chara with two linesmen in close proximity to him.

Little piece of stool needs to dry up and blow away.

I love the internet
