.500 hockey, Tippet is a trap coach who has had pretty much limited talent rosters in Arizona, not in too much of a panic right now TBH. Sucks though from a fan perspective but long run this stretch will really weed out the passengers(although most Oiler fans know who they are), adversity is not always a bad thing for teams.

For example even you guys down Giordano for a bit will in the long run help out your younger defesmen develop quicker and will weed out the ones you do not want.

Not that I want McDavid out, do not get me wrong there.

It'll be fun to see how Drai and Yamamoto perform. Like how Malkin and Rust performed when Crosby and later on Guentzel went down.

It is kind of a silver lining, not that you want your best player out but it really does show who your good players really are. Edmonton has some passengers, and they already are getting weeded out. Chiasson for example(I hated the $$$ for his extension) was a clear product of McD/Drai, that money could have been spent on a better player for sure.
No different for you guys with Gio out, good time to look at your defense and see who is a stud and who is a dud.
And if you do not want Brodie and Bennet we will take them( I really like those two).

Stoke me a clipper.
Hopefully like the Brodie situation, he's no worse for wear after a short rest. I hope everything is OK.
From the sounds of it, much more serious than the Brodie incident.

"With 7:50 remaining in the first period of our game tonight, Jay Bouwmeester suffered a cardiac episode and collapsed on our bench after completing his shift. Thankfully, with the quick response of our medical trainers, Anaheim medical trainers and their team physicians, they were able to stabilize Jay. He was alert and moving all of his extremities as he was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center. Currently, Jay is conscious and alert as he undergoes further testing by Anaheim's physicians. We will update Jay's condition on Wednesday morning."

Frolik in his time in Buffalo has been their worst player by fancy stats and has 1G and 1A through 14 games.

I liked Frolik for most of his time year but in the last year and a half or so he's been awful and I'm glad we were able to get value out of him.

Man, Yamamoto has been killing it for you guys!

Now I wish I didn't trade him off in our fantasy league. In my defence, I thought he would follow the traditional Oilers prospect development route

As I said, he'll be PTO fodder next year. Guy has fallen off a literal cliff.

So did BT and the owner pocket the cap saving? He said he was going to do something but nothing so far.

This team sucks. I'd rather Brad not make desperation moves to ruin the future even more.

But yeah, pretty much lol.

The longer they wait to bring someone in, the larger that cap space savings becomes, because the contract they acquire is pro-rated by the amount of remaining time left. This is one of the reasons why teams wait until close to the deadline. The other is because it allows the team to know more about the risk/reward of making a deal.

As Anglesmith mentioned, it's a cap savings. For every game earlier you acquire a guy, you're paying extra salary and using up extra salary cap. You're also unnecessarily taking extra risk. If you acquire the player early and he gets injured. You straight up lose value. But letting the other team hold the player until the very last moment? If the player gets injured you can cut bait on the brewing trade and go to plan B or C or just straight up not lose value.

ie: Mats Zucarrello last season with the Stars. They paid a 2nd and 3rd and for him and he was injured like 2 games later.

In that case, it was a TDL 11th hour deal so it was just unfortunate. But imagine if you acquired a guy who was UFA and he was done for the season even before the TDL is over. Even if it's unfortunate and out of your control, you would look so freaking stupid as the acquiring GM for pissing away those assets.

Thanks for the explaination...I am nervously waiting for this windfall, hopefully not another overpaid dinosaur

Can we collectively agree that if a Flame pulls back then kicks a player with the blade of his skate we take the long suspension that they deserve and don't put on our blinders or try to defend it.

Trying to figure out how I would feel seeing a Flame do that and man if anyone on the team is that stupid give them a long time off to smarten the hell up.

What a weird time to fire him. 7-3-1 in their last 11 and with games in hand on the Preds, Jets, and Zona

I'm not sure Boudreau is the move here though. He has an awful playoff record with Ducks teams that should've won a cup or two
