If he says he really wants to make a trade, the other GM will try and squeeze him because they know he feels necessary to make a move.
People also need to listen much more closely. Nothing he said at the press conference rules out a move like Meier or Chychrun. A lot of 'this is the way we like to do things, this is the plan, but if the situation presents itself, we are not opposed to it'.

The debate at this point is what is counter to the bigger plan.

The idea of Chychrun (who is younger than Tage) at a fair price, at 4.5 million for the reminder of this season and 2 more beyond this doesn't exactly strike me as a "short term fix" deal that Adams said he's opposed to.

I don't see Meier happening, it would be great to get a Tuch clone. And this is me assuming, I don't know how well it would go over after Kevyn talks about earning it, loving being a Sabre, everyone has to be on the same long term vision goal (taking a bit less money) then trades for Meier and immediately forks him over the largest contract on the team.

Alpha genius Craig Rivet DESTROYS Kevyn Adams with FACTS and LOGIC

Also I don't think people realize Kevyn puts himself in a position of leverage by saying he doesn't have to make a move and they're just going to stay the course if they can't get the right deal done. Oh you want more than what we've offered? Well we'll just walk away and keep building with our current core. Our timeline is plenty long enough to where we don't have to panic.

If he says he really wants to make a trade, the other GM will try and squeeze him because they know he feels necessary to make a move.

That first sentence nearly cost me a new laptop. ☕ :biglaugh:

The question I have about 'the plan' is what that pipeline of youth looks like and where do they fall. They are building their core, and have signed 3 guys to long-term deals, with two more coming in their D core. They have Tuch and Skinner.

Where do Quinn and Peterka fit? Do they want them on bridge deals? If they explode, are those long term deal potential? Do they consider one of them expendible for a player like Meier?

What about the next wave of really young, high-end talent? Those players are all mostly top-6. So do they want to leave slots on their top two lines to cycle that talent in? Is the third line for those guys? Where are the replacements for Okposo and Girgensons in the system?

Ovi is great. A legit superstar who loves to hit and be hit and doesn't whine like Sydney..
It's crazy that as dangerous as he's been for his entire career with his one timer, he can still basically just stand there waiting for the defender to collapse. Seems to still happen very consistently, guy will cover the passing lane to him at first and then at some point collapses towards the net and leaves him wide open.

It's true, if you listen closely, he said nothing of any substance. He left open every single possibility and hinted at nothing.

He just repeats himself, honestly.
  1. He's always checking in with other GMs
  2. Wont do anything short-sighted
  3. Not going to deviate from the plan, which seems to be working.
  4. Will make moves that fit
The problem is as fans, we are trying to get insight into how he views his assets, and how they fit with the plan. Are these guys in black ink, are they penciled in, or are they in dry-erase? What does the core look like from a budget and player perspective? Is he still not 'blocking' prospects and has he identified which those are? Where do guys land on the 'untradable' spectrum, and what type of player makes them tradable?

We try and piece this stuff together, but there is a lot that is not disclosed to the public.

He does fall into controller mode from time to time ... but when he is motivated and healthy the guy is an absolute tank.

I will be the first person to admit I LOVED Tim Murray's press conferences. You never knew what he was going to say and he was probably going to overshare. He definitely was open about what he wanted and what he would give up to get it. We know how that all worked out.

Heck, if you really wanted to know, you could just go to Bada Bing's late night and get it right from the man himself.

I couldn't stand listening to Botts. Ugh.

I like hearing from Adams. I'm not expecting him to give away the plan other than their willingness to stick with it but getting insight from him like how he sat down with Okposo to ask about team toughness and other needs, or sitting with Cozens before he left for the break and getting the pulse on how he feels about the team, or keeping up with guys like Savoie and Levi - this is all more valuable to me than hearing he'll be pushing hard for another defenseman (and other GM taking notes when he says that).

He seems to provide more insight when he's interviewed on a podcast than in press conferences, but he does give some nuggets at the podium. But when he's not really saying anything, he can be as annoying as Botterill or Krueger.

Why are people rooting for Ovi to break the record again? I enjoyed his drunken celebration after winning the Cup as much as anyone, but that's it.
Ovi loves hockey. When someone is able to showcase that love for the sport, it's tough not to love someone that clearly enjoys doing something as goofy as playing a sport for our entertainment. In a sport where players are often reserved and mono-tone with things, it's a breath of fresh air to see something different. Guys like Ovi, PK Subban should've paved the way for the NHL, but too often, the league falls back to celebrate the boring players.

And??? You're still holding ill-will feelings on a play that happened under 17 years ago, a play where Briere speared Ovi in the chest, prior, with his stick?

Water under the bridge, let it go. You're witnessing yet another great goal scorer of this sport, and he was probably biggest fan of scoring goals.

Just not a fan. I don't like Taylor Swift either.

The doghouse
islanders and Rangers weren’t worried about their chemistry I guess. Every other team who makes a move…guess they weren’t either. But not our room!

Time to join this league.

Soooo, two teams so far?

Neither of which are remotely comparable to buffalo’s situation
