Around the NHL: PTO Season Becomes Waiver Season

He’s such a clown. It’s such a stupid take. They won two Cups and played in a 3rd final.

I think they got a lot out of their moves Mike.
Yeah. Dumb take. They spent way too much on Jeannot. No doubt, but spending picks on rentals is something all contenders should do. Hopefully, the Sabres are in the same spot one day. You just never go full Jeannot on a trade. That was ugly from the moment it broke.

Meanwhile, the Leafs got ROR, who may be their most consistent player thus far. That's a damn good rental. Well, hopefully a rental.

So watch were McCann shoots that puck - it's by the hash marks. It goes out of play. The play is over. Now...

Pierre is in the low slot and gets finished into the sidewall. Makar follows McCann for almost the same distance, if not more. There is precedence.

Just remember that Jeannot is RFA and he'll be in Tampa for some time.

Hard to argue with their track record also. A ton of people lambasted what they gave up for Hagel last year, especially after he didn't produce a ton with Tampa at first. This season he sets a career high for goals, assists and points. He was also 2nd in the league in takeaways, and while it's a subjective statistic having 92 takeaways vs only 48 giveaways is still impressive.

Leafs are very much in position for another game 7 choke job. They were gifted game 3 by the refs on the overturned Point goal. 2 goals in the Bos/Fla series have been allowed under basically the same circumstances, ref blew it dead on the ice, but "continuation of play" makes it a good goal. Remember when the refs never blew the whistle in our game against the rags when the puck was under Levi? And it gave Fox enough time to skate in a circle around the entire net and them come jam the puck out from under Levi? It's so wildly inconsistent.

Not surprised Rags/NJ are tied 2-2, but I am surprised with the way the games played out.

I don't like any of the teams in the East, but I guess I hate NJ the least?

Currently rooting for TBL because a leafs game 7 meltdown is worth it. Will root against TBL in round 2.

I hate Carolina, but I hate NYI more and can't wait for them to be done.

Oilers Vs NJ cup final would be ideal.

It's a similar play.

And I'm happily surprised to find this:

I expect it is a game, maybe two though it should be more and the officials who downgraded it should be given the rest of the playoffs off.

I know we say this a lot, but if I didn't LOVE hockey with a passion- I'd be done with the NHL due to reffing. I can't believe they downgraded that call. It's clear as day they didn't want to kick a star out of the game.

But, even with terrible refs- the NHL playoffs are still the most exciting thing to watch. Football (NFL) is right up there for me, but the NHL playoffs truly becomes a war between teams. I love it.

Just remember that Jeannot is RFA and he'll be in Tampa for some time.

Very true. Jeannot is a player every playoff team wants, but they did pay a hefty price to get him.

he probably had the complete opposite statement prepared for a different outcome.
he might be a dinosaur, but he manages to get shared, keeping his brand afloat.

He does but I don’t think he is actually trying to be a troll for clicks. I think he’s mostly just clueless.

One of my favorite takes of his (paraphrasing). “Expected by whom?” In response to people talking about expected goals.

Totally agree on all points. That the discussion is 1 or 2 is such wrong headed dino thinking.

They get a half point for at least having a hearing. I have family members who go fed up with this sort of non-sense back in the 80s-90s and gave up on the NHL totally. They'll occasionally watch Olympic or NCAA hockey.

Sometimes I ask myself why I pay any attention to the NHL. The other leagues are better entertainment products, especially for the money.

he seems to come across as a guy embracing the role life has dealt to him consciously or not.
its like those podcast/youtube types who found an audience in one of the political spectrums;
they got to cater the same stick over and over again; its even enforced by all the lazy silicon valley algorithms. diversified opinions cannot be defined by a like.
If he was any good I probably would have never heard from him.

All Tampa has been doing against us is headhunting and attacking our players post play not sure why anyone hates the Leafs that much other than their fans but other than Matthews suspension a few years ago they pretty much do nothing to hurt the Sabres for several years now.
Leaf fan coming in peace. It seems to me Tampa does the same dirty shit to every team. Bunch of cheap pricks

The Leafs, getting a bunch of cheap pricks to fill out their roster, calling Tampa a bunch of cheap pricks.

its 3-1 the other way without ROR right now, they said it during the broadcast alst night that hes single handedly saving everyones job

it really says something about the Sabres during the time before he left here

At least the Leafs are doing it in reaction to Tampa doing it......hell, if the league isn't gonna stop Tampa, you might as well prepare to fight fire with fire.
and thats the mistake everyone has made since the bruins won the cup

its not physical players that you need, its dirty players

in fact watching these playoffs you see more players getting penalties for body checking than you do for straight up trying to goon someone

right now the difference seems to be more that TB is finally just... tired and old

I'm watching this 1st round and envisioning how the Sabres would handle/struggle to succeed against various teams. Not only would it be a physical and mental challenge, but I see a huge level of frustration for both the team and fans, based on the level of dirt bag play and how much the cromagnon DOPS allows to let go without sufficient discipline. I'm optimistic about making the playoffs next spring, and equally fearful of watching at least two good Sabres get hacked out of the series or entire tournament. I may really struggle to keep being a fan of this league when it's my team getting @#$!ed over multiple times each series between terrible calls and scumbag hits getting overlooked.
