Habs locker room cleanout day with some tidbits - Dach is dealing with a concussion, Gallagher broke his ankle... and rebroke the same ankle, Suzuki won't play for Canada at the WC's but Montembeault will.

Really curious to see what Pittsburgh and Calgary do this off-season. They tried to extend their competitiveness last offseason and both failed miserably.

In my opinion, Pittsburgh should ship Crosby to Colorado, Malkin to Minnesota, and Letang to Dallas to kickstart a rebuild. Their prospect pool is hilarious. Get something while you can for the old core.

Now I like Trouba even less for making me like him more. Ugh.

What a good dude. He's a hard player to like when he's not on your team but that's first class. He'd be adored in Buffalo for how he plays. Granted, that isn't happening - not with his wife ensconced in NYC's medical community and of course he's the Rangers' captain.

An interesting thread about where league trends are going.

Now just get the clutching/grabbing/interference (whatever you want to call it) out of the league and hold the refs accountable, and this will be one of the best products they've had in years, but we know that won't happen!

Some interesting ideas to improve officiating

I have thought they could get people to call the lines for offside from off the ice for some time - like how lines are called in tennis. But that takes away from some precious space for pricey seats so that probably wouldn't happen. :biglaugh:

My initial, amateur, opinion?

Way too much happening on the ice for just 2 people to keep track of.

It's interesting how he mentions the guys throwing their heads back to get high sticking calls, which his idea would get rid of. It would also take that hooking crap where guys hold onto sticks under their arms to draw calls. That shit drives me INSANE. I've been wanting to get that out of the game forever.

If not they might end in same situation as Blackhawks with Toews and Kane, basically nothing

There still needs to be officials on the ice for when the stupid stuff starts.
Put some review equipment in the penalty box area maybe. Have two guys sitting there watching for offsides and whatever else, who can jump on the ice if the need arises. I cant imagine losing somewhere between 2-4 seats is a big deal if you need to make it bigger to fit them.

Maybe could work. It would take some thinking by the NHL, so right there any innovation is dead in the water.
