Ive seen a few posters point to the Red Wings success saying- see, we should've done that!

It's actually a legit debate, and Im hoping Adams goes that route this offseason. I believe Buffalo and Detroit were in different phases of their rebuild. I wanted more signings but I also understand Adams POV, too. Let's see the roles that get carved out this season, then make moves this deadline and offseason. If Adams goes into this offseason with the same mindset, then Ill be worried.

But...it is pretty funny that we're neck and neck with the Wings 3/4 of the way through the season. You'd think their much better offseason wouldve led to much better results than the Sabres.

That could still happen. The Sabres are crazy young and may burnout, but as of today- the argument that Detriot made the right moves and Adams is a moron is invalid.

Time will tell if that narrative changes.

All the summer takes that Ottawa and Detroit jumped over Buffalo because Adams was patient this summer are looking much different at this point in the season.

Detroit and Ottawa have had injury issues....we haven't. In fact, we've been one of the least injured teams in the league this year.

To see the individual performances we've had and see where we are in the standings as a positive indicator of Adams performance is a logical disconnect.

Adams refusal to do anything other than moves to get to the cap floor this summer rather than actually try to address obvious issues that playing kids won't resolve is the reason we aren't comfortably in a playoff spot.

A norris trophy nominee and potentially a hart trophy nominee....and we are still likely not going to finish in the top 16 this year. Why? Because we're terrible in net and can't kill a penalty....all issues that were known 2 years ago AND last summer. Yet nothing substantial has been done on either front, despite immense draft capital and nearly unlimited cap space.

I really didn't care for the crop of available players (maybe Perron, but he wouldn't sign here) that Ottawa and Detroit pounced on. We also have no idea what goalies told us no (We know Murray for sure, and we also know that more than a few reporters said their were more. Husso? Probably)

I don't really mind Adams waiting this out (I'd like some trade to shore up our defensive game at the deadline. Depth wise. Nothing huge.) and hopping on the trade block and free agency THIS offseason when a lot more teams are pushed heavily against the cap and he has less competition to worry about in terms of bidding.

Because if we got in a bidding war between other teams in our division you know we'd have complaints that Adams is being stupid with his cap space and committing long term and too much money for guys who aren't worth it.

Hopefully their upward trajectory, and emergence of some players starts to make Buffalo look like more of a viable option for other players moving forward. Also players would get to play with a giraffe, and get hugs from Tuch... Who in their right mind wouldn't want that?

I dislike how the narrative shifts when people want to just continue to be negative. A few years ago, nobody was talking about money. People wouldn't sign with us because our team was a joke. Now that we are not a joke, the narrative shifts to now all of a sudden our owners care about the money and won't spent and that is why we don't get FAs. What will it shift to after we do use that cap space?

Kevyn Adams sucks and spent too much money for too long. Obviously.

If he spends the money smart, I doubt anybody will complain.
It is all about the results at the end of the day.

He could sign a guy to a contract that everyone celebrates at the time. But, if the guy is a bust, then people will kill Adams for the move.

The Comrie signing is a good example. Most people felt like it was a decent bet at the time. Now plenty of people are killing him for that being the move he made in net this summer and it is largely hindsight being 20/20 stuff.

Can I be the guy that didn't like the signing, and now just shrugs my shoulders because if he didn't sign Husso, it really didn't matter what warm body he chose to back stop a defensively inept team? Husso at 3x4.75 mil would be a good deal. Comrie at 2x1.8 mil is just whatever...a mediocre filler that doesn't really mess the cap or roster up, but doesn't improve the team either.

Husso has been better than Comrie. But, he's only been slightly better than UPL. And who knows what he looks like behind this Sabres team versus the Red Wings.

The challenge is that predicting what goalies would look good after changing teams is tough. Goalies are not exactly voodoo, but they are close.

All that matters is that he's been better than both. There would be no 3 headed goalie scenario and just a few more pts in the standings matter right now. I said in the summer that without a decent goalie they probably miss the playoffs. With a decent goalie they have a good chance to make them. You can respond about it being a development year, but development includes having goalies slot in where they belong, bridging a gap in a weak position until a better prospect is ready, and providing playoff experience to a young team if at all possible. I don't want to hear about "voodoo". I want to hear that KA makes a relatively cheap move to improve a position that obviously needs it. He's failed at the goalie position for whatever reason. Doesn't mean he can't figure it out or do better with the rest of the roster, but I need to see something along those lines this summer.

Being better on a different team does not equate to being better on this team.

The team in front of a goalie matters when it comes to goalie results.

If they had signed Husso instead of Comrie, UPL could be outplaying Husso here.

My argument, which the season has proven out…was that we were in a BETTER place to make moves than Detroit. We had a better core and more space and assets to do things. We’re right with them with no moves. Imagine if they had made them.

All this year did was reinforce all the things we already knew. They are a joke in goal. Bryson is bad. Olofsson is a problem. They need a defensive center. They need a top 4 D

All should have been addressed. Any excuse people want for why they didn’t doesn’t change it.

That's certainly part of why the run at the end of last year carrying into this run is important, to get a little bit of the stank of old regimes off the franchise.

I would think the Sens would be right in the thick of things if Norris hadn't gone down to injury for most of the season.

They always seem to be the weirdest creatures in the locker room, too.
