View attachment 655929Husso has been better than Comrie. But, he's only been slightly better than UPL. And who knows what he looks like behind this Sabres team versus the Red Wings.

The challenge is that predicting what goalies would look good after changing teams is tough. Goalies are not exactly voodoo, but they are close.
It's crazy that Jarry has a .916 save %, and almost 60% quality starts but his goals saved above expected is only 1.

Couldn’t give us a powerplay for the hit on Okposo…but we might get the benefit of a suspension that weakens Tampa for their games against *checks their upcoming opponents*

Detroit
Pittsburgh
Florida

Yep.

After that they have

*checks notes*

Buffalo

God damn it.

ive never had an issue with teams tanking because I think your goal is a championship

but the last few years in this league looking at what the bottom does and how it effects the standings, I'm swinging around to a position where I think this league in particular needs to sort itself out because its been bad for hockey

of course if i list the things that the NHL allows that are bad for hockey tanking probably needs a page refresh before I get to it

I cant imagine putting your name on a league where the minor problems would be 24/7 discussions in the major sports and not being embarrassed to be part of it
Tanking is actually a far bigger problem in baseball than in the NHL, and it is not a 24/7 discussion there.

It makes me wonder if it is the pressure of being the #1 guy in his age group for all those years?

And coming right into the NHL at such a young age has to be a pressure cooker too. Money, expectation... all sorts of stressors that can lead to needing help.

Sounds like the Jackets think the Bruins pulled the rug out on a Gavrikov deal by doing the Orlov-Hathaway thing. Always interesting when the GM's start to get catty.

I would imagine, when Gavrikov makes 2.8M per season, how difficult it would have been to cover the difference. But, perhaps the asking price was higher than it was for Orlov.

Gavrikov would be a huge addition, but again he's a LHD. Upgrading the defense is the need. I believe it would be more likely that a goalie upgrade would happen towards the offseason.

Even if Orlov cost more, he has quite a bit more playoff experience, plus they got Hathaway who I'd think would be on a lot of teams wishlists. Sucks for Columbus, but until the paperworks filed it's not a deal.

The Jackets might not have been willing/able to take Smith back. *shrug*

It's not the first time something like this has happened. Some GM's work often with other GM's - guys they have known or played with. I remember someone pointing out how the front offices would cluster at the Top Prospects Game in the mid-90's. Sinden and his disciples all in one corner, others in other corners. *shrug*
