His counting numbers are down this year but RoR has been taking on miserable deployment, even by his standards.

Gotta imagine all he's doing between now and end of season is watching game film of Point.

I await Boston and Tampa making some move as well.

Elsewhere, the Oilers have blown another lead and it's tied 4-4 against the Rangers.

I would be shocked if Pens don't make a big move knowing that this is probably their last playoff run with Crosby/Malkin

Minnesota bought a 4th rounder to retain 25% of O'Reilly's deal.
They got a higher price to do a pass thru.

in real money owed from minnesota is about $70K which should be a 6th/7th

thst means doing pass thrus could cost more this year.

An arms race…or is a first born?

Its crazy to me how many people, not just here, think there is a legitimate force preventing leafs from winning a round

Too much pre-meditated floating of their failures. If leaf fans are insufferable now, just wait until the team wins something

Now Pens lose to NJ tomorrow night and they will be within striking distance. NYI, PIT, WSH and DET all have tough matchups tomorrow. BUF and FLA have easier matchups. Could be in the second wild card by point % after tomorrow night and just behind the Pens for the first wild card spot (3 points back with a game in hand).
Idk maybe you're right about the pens spot being in reach. Who are you favoring on Monday when the pens and Islanders play again?

The problem I see with so many teams in the mix is when we need a team in front of us to lose it's fairly likely the points are going to go to another team we're in a race with.

I just don't see us outplaying the pens by the approximately .050-.075 ish pts% over 29 games to take their spot - they're not going to be a sub-.500 team and we're probably not going to play over .600 - but all we have to do is match the capitals (and the other teams in the race) and the 8th spot is ours. The fewer other teams hanging around the better imo.

RoR and Acciari changes the Leafs' bottom 6 rather sharply......and for the better come playoff time

Are they actually going to make it out of Round 1 finally?

For the life of me I will never understand how they could have such a dog shit defense and goaltending for so long and all they ever do is try to add big name forwards.

So, no. I don’t think this is the year.

I wonder if a team comes to the Hawks to see if he'll waive to go somewhere else. Dallas might be a fit. I was hoping he was going to take his broken down self to Toronto but man, this O'reilly/Acciari move is really good for the Leafs.

Also, the Wild bought a 4th for $74K in real money to retain on O'Reilly for the Leafs. THAT was what I was hoping Buffalo would be in on, though I imagine there is the specter of a trade having to satisfy NTC/NMC restrictions too...

Yeah. I am aware.

I don’t think the Islanders are as good as the rest of the wild card contenders, so if they can steal points from PIT, I think that is a good thing. Even though they won last night they were outplayed badly for 50 minutes (the last 10 minutes were even).

I think it’s going to come down to BUF, PIT, and FLA for the final two spots personally. Islanders rely on getting bailed out by goaltending, Detroit has been on an unsustainable streak and Washington seems to be trending in a bad direction and has injuries. Ottawa has dug themselves too deep a hole.

I don't feel bad for the Leafs, but imagine...

The Bills load up, and are guaranteed the Chiefs and the wildcard...

then if they beat them, the 16-19 Brady Patriots will be waiting in the Divisional.

the issue for the leafs will simply be no matter who they face in the 1st two rounds, they'll be at a disadvantage in goal. Though, with Boston Ullmark/Swayman are unproven in the playoffs.

The issue is, the Islanders are the exact kind of team that does well at the end of the season when the whistles get put away.. A team that muck it up and win games 2-1, 3-2, and a lot of their games will go to OT so they'll be banking points even when they lose.

Toronto likely to match up against the Rags or TB in the first round. Two teams with extremely good goal tending. I think they could beat either of them provided their own goal tending holds up.

just root against the pens and buffalo wins the games aga8nst those they are competing with.

for the team it’s a learning experience.

Rangers? How? That would require the Rangers to finish as a wild card while the Leafs win the divsion. Or the Leafs to fall to a wild card while the Rangers win the Metro.

Any of the 4 scenarios occurring is highly, highly unlikely. Putting the right 2 together while the math works out right for the inter-division swap might take an act of a higher power.

This is missed opportunity number one for the Sabres to use cap room for assets. Let me get the Pegula excuses ready — can't help a divisional rival (other than someone else will anyway), it takes two to tango (somehow we miss every dance), and fourth-round picks are meaningless. Feel free to add.

Could be. Guerin was publicly talking about using his cap space to retain for these very sort of deals and it's not like the Wild have much space. It would be smart business - don't care if they were helping a division rival or not, extra picks are extra picks.

There’s half a dozen teams that could have bought that 4th. Do they all need excuses or do you realize not all of them could’ve involved in the deal?
