call the instigator penalty and make it a major. would end this shit quick.
I doubt it. Remember the guys doing this are low skill guys who take majors as a badge of honor. Suspensions that eat into their low salary are where its at. 20 game suspension is 1/4th their yearly salary.
Id also make it a rule that if you have a player out for suspension the team cannot replace the spot on the roster so if you had an active roster of 21 you go down to 20.

Hurts the player, hurts the team. Long term it'll protect players and the skill guys will have much longer careers.

The sad truth, there isn't any way to stop it.

It's a game that moves 30 MPH and is highly competitive.

History has shown us that the real sociopaths aren't deterred by having to fight and I don't think suspensions will stop them either.

I for one am really sick of this type of retaliation on clean & standard hits. Like I get sticking up for your star players who are getting taken advantage of, or if it's a dirty hit, or blindside hit, or knee on knee, or even a questionable hit. If this sort of justice was meted out on Subban, he'd be out for the season with a broken face.

I don't have a problem with the fight itself even if Hughes basically injured himself by trying to jump out of the way of the hit.

My issue is with Subban jumping a guy who isn't a fighter but will run, hide and turtle when hes asked to answer the bell. If there was ever a guy who deserves to be kabonked into the shadow realm, it's Tom Wilson. Right behind him it's Subban.

I will be watching Toronto and Tampa tonight.

Good thread, possibly more to come from Pronger.

Surprised there's not some kind of NHLPA course to help players with this stuff. I know the Aussie Football League runs a mandatory course for it's young players, and they're only on about a 3rd of what an NHL rookie is at best.

I can kind of understand guys like Pronger having issues in this area, coming up in the game when salaries were rising rapidly, but when it's still happening in 2022 you have to ask what's going on. Current players have heard all the same horror stories we have about being ripped off or blowing all the $$, so why aren't they learning?

There needs to be some sorta heavy punishment for attacking a player who landed a clean hit.
But the league sees it as acceptable/appropriate.
Weve had terrible incidents in hockey both due to shitty ref's and the leagues joke of a "player safety department".

The arizona game was a shit show that the league considered nothing wrong. When a dude beats a 30g scorer for "skilling it up", thats a travesty and the league should've suspended him for 20 games.

The league has had ample time to figure out how to balance keeping the physical play in the game, while also getting rid of the stupid hits that turn off new fans. The game needs to grow, and its the skill that grows it, not the head bashing.
what is more embarassing? some one pulling a michagan goal against you? or playing for the phoenix coyotes? or the fact that the coyotes are a viable franchise?

Kind of an instant follow, but is he doing this to help/raise awareness or somehow raise money? Edit* Eh I won't be that cynical, let's see how this goes.

Matthews is an absolute monster. Easily top5 player

Hopefully we're ready if he's leaving Canada

With the response we've had in the last two games (some of it coming from me), imagine if the Rangers were shallacked like this against Pittsburgh at home. I think Toronto is the equivalent of Pittsburgh to us.

Pulling away with the goals lead. And the takeaway behind the Tampa net and centering pass to Marner for the goal, they make it look so damn easy.

I guess Tampa can't win in the playoffs also after losing 6-2 to Toronto since we always take recent 1 game samples as Gospel.

Tkachuk takes a double minor with 2:03 left in the 3rd 6 on 4 empty net for the Kings. Kings trail 3-2

Toronto is just scary.

The thing was, last night, they played good D. Tampa just didn't have much time and space to do anything outside of a few spurts. Campbell was also very good when he had to be.
