The Red Wings may be bad, but they are much improved. They're scrappy, and aren't a guaranteed 2 pts like they have been for the past 2 years.

they have made some real strides

Yayyy we gained a point on the pens lol. Only 9 left. We probably will have to go 12-1 or 11-1-1 the rest of the way due to the see-saw the top 4 will have. hard to see a team like Pitt or Boston losing 3 or 4 in a row.

Vrana scores in his debut as well. I like that move for them a lot. Add some nice picks and a young talented player like that, good for them. Good chance to be a nice staple in the top 6 going forward

I can't believe this Islanders team is at or near the top of this division. Pathetic display. Shots are 21-5 right now.
They are running out of gas.....pretty stupid coaching running Barzal out there down 3 goals around a minute and twenty seconds to play.....that is bad use of assets as they are a lock for playoffs as is . Why risk Barzal at that point ? The chance of knotting the game up like a Gazillion to one......I have to think the GM might mention that one to Barry T .

In cap related news, Steven Stamkos goes on IR and the Nikita Kucherov is now on the ice practicing for the Lightning. The NHL needs to do something about this cheating.

The league needs to also address the Tax situation on states that have no state income tax. It's just an unfair cap balance around the league. Players will sign for less because of the tax advantage and it hurts any kind of bidding for teams who have high state income taxes. They have to go at least 10% higher in salary than those states who have no state income tax. Being a Rangers and Ducks fan, both my teams are among two of the highest states with cost of living and taxes. I also have partial residence in Florida, so I know those savings. Property taxes for one example are night and day. It's not even close.

I have no problem with the state tax difference. It’d be funny as hell to see Tampa sign a guy for 8 years and ask him to take a discount because of the Florida state income tax, then a couple years later trade them to a place like NY or Toronto where taxes are higher. It’s not like their salary changes and now they’ve taken a Florida us count even though they are playing elsewhere. But wait, that’s not possible. Tampa Bay doesn’t use trades to clear cap space...

OR, and hear me out on this, everyone could push back against their local government to possibly realize their are over taxing people for no reason other than to squander that money. The next thing people will complain about is how players make more money in certain cities based on jersey sales and fan base size, or outside advertising opportunities, etc. Or weather? Florida has nice weather.

Basically what I am showing is it's a rabbit hole and the proper way to combat this is for the state of NY and NYC specifically to reform their tax code to be in line with other locations across the country. It's one of the main reasons people are fleeing the state and the city. That and they're driving out businesses doing the same thing.

Also, afaik the tax is depending on where the money is earned, so for half the games the tax does not depend on the employing team anyway. So in the end the difference is probably something like 5%. Does that really make that big of a difference? I'd say for most players (and especially star players), the organizational state of the team is far more important than the geographical state.

Colorado having their next 3 games postponed while I'm in the fantasy playoffs with Mackinnon Makar Rantanen and Grubauer
When will the pain and suffering end.

Marleau on the verge of playing the most games of any player in NHL history (Jagr would've had this record, along with #2 all time in scoring, if he didn't bolt for the KHL for three years).

He'll probably make the Hall of Fame with 500+ goals, 600+ assists, etc... but I have to say I really don't think he belongs there. Solid NHL player for a ton of years but never really any truly exceptional seasons. It's a weird one and I'd understand either side of the argument.

Kind of how I felt about Dino Cicciarelli and Dave Andreychuk, they were neither even even a finalist for the hart trophy a single time in their careers.

Though I guess there’s something fame worthy about being able to be an above average NHL player for over twenty seasons, but you won’t see me advocating Matt Cullen for the HOF
