How are the islanders only just starting to be good, and they are already one of the oldest teams in hockey? Their window is going to be closed again after a year or two.
They have a young top center. Their top D paring is relatively young. They have a young promising goalie. If some of their younger players can take the Next step in a year or two they can maybe be a contender for many years.

The islanders being really good and faves for the cup denial on here is hilarious to me. I’m glad I don’t live in NY anymore because it’s going to be unbearable there after they win the cup...

Again, you say this every year.

They're 4-5 bad games from Barzal away from being an easy out in any round. Better players have gone cold in the playoffs.

Palmieri fits that team like a glove with the way he plays. High motor, pretty skilled, crashes the net. He and JG Pageau will be a PIA to plat against.

They are a good team now, but i don't see them winning a cup. They have one Elite player, the rest are good complimentary players. Barzal is their Lundqvist. Under developing Dal Colle, Ho Sang, Reinhart, Niederreiter, Strome, and not getting assets for Tavares, will keep them from the cup.

The Islanders have Barzal and a bunch of also rans. It is all smoke and mirrors by Trotz. Nice of the Devils to bend over backwards to make them better though.

I can only assume the other parts involve Chicago sending back a ham sandwich and a 20% off coupon at Kohl's. Wow Brett Connolly's 4 points and a defensive defenseman with average size, you gotta give to get in this league.

Well, that’s what tends to happen when you actually have an above average coach.

Rosters perform better than they are on paper, like they did with us under John Tortorella

yeah but at this point those failures don't matter. They did develop Pelick and Pulcock, Bork Nelson, and the trade for Pageau was perfect for them. They have a solid team thats really tough to play against and is annoyingly good at winning 1-goal games

I don't know that they take care of Washington either.

I know they had some nice games against them recently, but they also got smacked around by them earlier this year. Thats a toss up series where I'd probably lean Washington, it's the one matchup where I think Chara would actually be semi useful.
Have to figure the Caps are also going to load up for a last run . If we could slip into 4th...we would beat the Fishsticks out in 5 games ....we'll see how we do in the regular season remaining games against them....I think we will OWN them like last season .

So im speculating hard here w/o any inside knowledge, but this deal only makes sense from florida's perspective as a cap clear for a much bigger piece.
Alot of the speculation on that is Taylor Hall, but that doesn't make sense to me. They had 7.5m in space as soon as Ekblad went down, and are sitting at 15m in space per cap friendly.
I think they might be making a bigger play for Eichel. A package centered around Lundell + Knight, go all in this year (getting ekblad back if they make a deep run), hedge bets with Barkov (recoup assets if he wont re-sign).

Cap space and budget are two different things.

Ignoring this season, Florida owed Connolly another 7M dollars (which they'd prefer to not spend), this was to move salary off the books.
