Again did the Devils break the rules when they signed Kovalchuk to that 17 year deal? No but they still ended up getting punished. Teams find creative ways to get around the cap. The loophole needs to be closed. Otherwise in 2 years there will be a team with a $120 million dollar payroll with an $81 Million dollar cap.
The Kovalchuk penalty is nonsense, and it was nonsense at the time, but the league is just a list of things a bunch of rich guys shake on. It's not as serious as we try to make it sound. Go Habs, though

I could care less if anyone agrees with me, all I’ve stated are facts, everyone else’s arguments are “they didn’t break any rules”. When the loophole is closed watch how fast these people change their stance.

Gotta tell you man, "This move isn't illegal but if they make it illegal then you guys wouldn't want to see anyone do it like hypocrites" is not the argument you think it is lol

It’s frustrating to turn on NBC and see American Ninja Warrior. I know it doesn’t really matter and I’m probably just the old man yelling at a cloud, but I find it a little ridiculous. It’s not some random game in the middle of the season, it’s game one of the SCF. I don’t get it.

lol, i don’t care who wins b/c the Isles are out yet if fans want to point out the cap circumventing they’re entitled to it imo.

Those dismissing it out of, whatever, likely don’t understand the advantage Tampa has.

This guy gets it. 30 out of 31 NHL teams are operating within the rules laid out by the NHL while a team who couldn’t get rid of a bad contract or two to sign their RFA’s is on the verge of winning the Cup with a massive advantage because they planned to LTIR a player for the full season with the knowledge that he’d be back Game 1 of the playoffs.

Close the loophole:

-If you LTIR someone for cap space, they are done for the season including playoffs

-Make the salary cap enforceable during the playoffs (why is Game 40 of the season enforced while Game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs is not?)

When they close the loophole therefore it will become a RULE. As of now it’s not a RULE. Hopefully the Rangers don’t find themselves in the same position in the future, I’d hate to see your song and dance then.

If the Rangers did this I’d call them out. I’m a Ranger fan but I’m not a hypocrite or that much of a homer that I’d be oblivious to suspect behavior.

Anyways, enough arguing with all your baseless statements, time to watch this bloodbath by this $98 Million dollar team.

At this point I would take Gourde over any other forward on the ice with the exception of Point. He is a tornado with skill.

I really have come to appreciate and like Danault. He’s exactly the player I thought he was, but he’s got heart and makes exceptionally smart exit passes and defensive puck movements consistently. It’s actually amazing how much he threads the needle with crafty passes 15 feet inside/outside of his own blue line but doesn’t produce as much offensively.

Also I made super bomb chicken parm alla vodka and am drinking some solid wheat heavy bourbon so it’s a good night and I don’t really care who wins.

Price hasn't been bad actually. Problem is Montreal can't just shut down one line with this team. The Gourde line or even the Cirelli line is good enough to beat you if Point doesn't feel like scoring.

Imagine having 2 of the very best forwards in the game, some of the best dmen in the game, and also the best goalie in the league as well. Now that is cheating.

Thats why, regardless of cap loopholes or not, the most boring thing for me would be Tampa repeating. Montreal winning is the most unexpected thing I could have come up with 9 months ago. I don’t like them, but I don’t like Tampa either, and Montreal’s kids have been fun to watch.
