honestly I'm far more interested in how they will handle the draft and deal with players that currently are back in europe than the actual playoff format...

I mean we talk about the rangers being 'screwed' in different potential formats but could you imagine the reactions in lets say boston where the bruins had the best record in the league if they are told they are going to have to replace pastrnak with an ahler cause he can't get back into the country (i have no idea if he went back home)

The whole thing will, to me, be remembered as something less than legitimate. I wish they just cancel the damn thing. I understand why from a financial perspective that's not something the league and many players want to happen, but I do think it's the right thing to do.

On top of what you said, what happens when it's the third round and five guys on one team test positive before practice one day? What do you do then? There's just too much that can and will go wrong.

24 team format with the draft proceeding the playoffs is the best scenario for the Rangers. If they are one of the 24, great they are in and will likely end up picking about where they would have if they didn’t make it. If not, great higher pick. This only screws the Rangers if they do the draft prior to the playoffs and then don’t get in.

What I read this morning it sounded like they are trying to go top 12 in each conference. Top 4 are in and the next 8 will have to play a “play in” game. 5 v 12, 6 v 11, etc.
We would be the 10 seed and play Toronto in the play in game 10 v 7. Montreal and Chicago would be the 12th team in each conference.

Looks like the Rangers are going to make the playoffs with a full healthy roster, despite selling Skjei at the deadline and losing Kreider, Shesty, and Buch to late injuries. Funny how that works out.

thats assuming that mika and other can get back into the country and quarantine before we get swept...I think panarin stayed in ny but some players definitely went home.

I believe they are also talking about playing some games prior to the “play in games”. So I would think there will be plenty of time for all players to return.

I would be stunned if the league hasn't already worked out immigration issues with Homeland Security.

They will be able to fly to the US as a resident. Even with the travel ban, residents and citizens can fly. Technically, Mika Zibanejad can fly from New York to Sweden as a Swedish citizen and back as s US resident

I wouldn't be surprised if some players are here on a work visa only, and are not green card holders (i.e. "Residents"). That said, I'm sure the league has already worked out any return travel issues with DHS. They're not going to fire up the league then get caught with their pants down and star players stuck overseas.

Yeah, the paperwork will be done before they announce a return to hockey. I still hope they just cancel the season. I understand people want hockey back, but personally, I have moved on. I really do not give a flying f*** about a 24-team play off schedule. Just pull the plug and prepare for next season

They've got this far with returning I don't think they're figuring on pulling the plug but I more than less agree--and there are ways that this could turn into a shitshow. If the virus for instance were to run through a team or two half way through the playoffs then the league will have some reconfiguring and explaining to do. I can see the 20-21 season though being shortened anyway and/or without crowds. A lot depends on what things look like in the fall.

Having two potential site for the league resumption is interesting. One of them has to be Vegas.

Although I’m sure the league will get bullied out of using Vegas by the NBA.

I’d be calling up MGM and local Vegas officials everyday and reminding them who brought a big 4 sport to Vegas first if I was Bettman

NBA makes more sense to use ESPN’s setup in Orlando anyways. They already have the infrastructure in place to host everything

Speaks to their depth and leadership IMO.

And who knows if the late/fall is a shit show then people will say for sure they should have played in the summer. It's gonna suck not having hockey in front of passionate fans but if done safely/correctly it will be nice to have summer hockey.

Not going to lie. I'm going to watch if the Rangers are in it anyway and I'm going to hope they do well and I'm going to hope that there aren't any major issues with the virus. It's about what you can do.....but there is still potential. So the NHL is going to need to be on top of this all the way.

How fun would it be to knock out the Leafs, though. Asterisk or not. Even better if Georgiev does it.

No fans is better now we don’t have to hear them yell shoot every time someone touches the puck on the PP
Don't think a lot of people realize how terrible it will be with no fans. Obviously it has to be done like this but you'll be dying to hear people yelling "SHOOT" 5 minutes into the first dead silent hockey game you listen to.

Dreger is on a radio show right now discussing potentials. suggesting we might have a solution this week.

it feels surreal to listen to hockey radio at this point.

I absolutely think we could knock off the Leafs. We have depth issues and a leaky defense sometimes. They have worse depth issues and an even leakier defense and I'll take our goaltending over theirs. Between Matthews-Marner--Zibanejad--Panarin I think we do better too because I think our guys eat up their defenders more than theirs ours and again we have better goaltending. We're meaner and tougher too. We wouldn't want to take too many penalties though. They wouldn't want to do that either.

We had a certain snobby poster stating this tweet was irrelevant back in March and that we shouldnt even be discussing the concept of the 24 team format. Dont even discuss it...on a message board...a hockey message board...during a time when people have much less to do. I won’t name that poster though, they know who they are. They are very confrontational in most discussions around here.

The rumors have been out there and the rumors of the 24 team format are picking up with Pierre Lebrun and Bob McKenzie discussing it. Is it more credible now? Maybe eat crow for crapping on Igor.

Just hired as AGM of Avangard Omsk. I dont know, seems to me like he might have connections in the hockey world....maybe he is indeed credible
