There was an interesting tweet with a link to an article (THN?) that talked about Vancouver’s head of scouting being a free agent this summer.

Can’t find the article, but if someone does, note the talk about that 2017 draft. It talks about something I’ve brought up on here before - the idea of Vancouver taking Mittelstadt at 5. Taking Pettersson was not a unanimous decision.

Outside that piece, and as we’ve discussed here, Vegas was pretty well locked in on Glass at 6. At 7, Pettersson would’ve been the Rangers target.

This season's best free agent might end up being Vancouver's Judd Brackett - TheHockeyNews

That's interesting, what could have been.

The Canucks have this video of Benning mic'd up at that draft, and he kept saying that "the Rangers are the wild card" lol

It's a shame Jimbo didn't put his foot down and take Mittelstadt

So I’m so desperate I’m watching Pens/Caps game 6 of the 2016 semis and I’m really into it.

I hear you I've been youtubing highlights of pretty much every eastern conference series from 2011 on. Except ours of course. They gave us enough agita watching it live.

Leipsic is done for now anyway. He put the Caps in a situation. His gripe against Dowd and Hathaway might be part of not being an everyday player as Caps were going with 13/14 forwards and Leipsic was one of 4 or 5 4th liners for them. All that 'might not' be well received in their locker room but his remarks about Wilson's girlfriend--Wilson's a big part of their team and that's the real killer here. Leipsic isn't really a hard player to replace and he crossed a line with his team right there.

It also shows him to be a shit teammate or at least someone in need of remediation. I don't think there are going to be many teams interested in his services for a while. Is it altogether fair to have your shit hacked and put in public? Probably not--but not much excuse for his stupidity and misogyny either. The truth seems to be he's a social jerk and hey I I'd rather keep social jerks away from my team

Wow. Is this what’s ‘cool’ now? The Rat Pack ain’t got nothin’ on these suave fellas.

I seriously doubt he's alone in this....I'd bet dollars to donuts these type of comments are made between teammates a lot more than people care to believe....if he hadn't been hacked, I wonder if we'd even be discussing this.

Of course, there's the other side of the coin....if Avery can be disciplined for talking about his own ex publicly...well, need I say more?

If Leipsic hadn't been hacked of course we wouldn't. We wouldn't know. That said he came off in it like a first class jerk and the comments directed Wilson's way pretty much sealed his fate with the Capitals. He was stupid. Being stupid isn't necessarily a crime but it can make it harder for your employment prospects.

As far as Avery--we're living in somewhat different times. I read Avery's book by the way---that comment about his former girlfriend was the one thing he seemed to regret. Avery also didn't like Dallas and partly because the Stars coach Dave Tippett and some of their top players didn't exactly welcome him and he wanted out and back to the Rangers.....and that's the way it worked out after a suspension and a stint in a recovery home that he didn't really need.

I agree...my point (which I realize I wasn't clear about) is that he's not the only one. He made the ultimate mistake -- he got caught. (BTW: Maybe it's just me, but when I heard this story, I had the oddest feeling the story was "leaked" and not "hacked" -- still feel that way.)

It might not be altogether fair what happened to Leipsic but still I find it difficult to have a whole lot of sympathy for him. People who get their kicks out of demeaning others and that's what he and his pals were doing in their video chat. You know--get your mind in the right place and you're not going to have these issues and all these teams he's been on in a relatively short span of time it kind of gives you the idea that the guy is a problem and I for one am not all that eager to take on such a reclamation case. We've been through a few of them. They usually don't work out all that well and for a 4th line talent it's not worth bothering.

I didn’t read too much about the comments but what I did read struck me as just, petty and dumb. Just left a bad aftertaste. Thinking that this is how people talk. I mean, I crack wise with my mates in the messenger app. But I’d like to think we’re more... witty, funny, controlled, even respectful. These guys are unfiltered. No restraint or judgment at all. And I just don’t dig it.

I agree..unfortunately, after centuries of civilized living, it's sad this is still happening....most times there some level of alcohol involved (would not be surprised if that was the case here as well).....but I'm sure his general personality was the springboard.

Each place he wound up in was a new chance......and if your behavioral issues are the reason you move here and there so much also a chance to learn from that. For players of his caliber who are on the cusp a lot you have to find ways to fit in more than stick out from the rest of the team. I don't know who hacked him or why. It makes you wonder but he shouldn't have said the shit he did either.

It's a no no to make personal slighting comments against teammates and the off ice relationships they have. I'm not a fan of Tom Wilson at all. I think he's a dirty and oftentimes dangerous player but he's a really important player for the Caps and given how this could get divisive really quickly I don't think it was a hard decision for the Caps at all to dump Leipsic. They can find other players to fill out their 4th line. It's not that hard.

As I stated before, I think it was leaked...
