True but somehow we probably get locked out of the playoffs and they decide to do the draft based on regular season ppg. if that happens JD better be raising hell.

Want to make it really equitable? Give us the highest chance to get the top pick for screwing a streaking team out of playoffs.

there is zero chance that they would use this to determine the draft, things don't work that way in rangers land. we'd be outside on the playoffs and then end up picking after 8-10 teams that made the playoffs lol...

the first thing that doesn't make any sense is why are 1 & 2 playing each other for no reason? a neutral site game with no fans, there is no such thing as home ice advantage. and both teams will advance anyway so the only reason for them to play is to risk injury...and the division winner is either the team that finished first or wins the division tourney like the old patrick division days.

and how would the brackets work? so you have 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5, then the winners would face 1 & 2 and the winner comes out of the division? that leaves you with 6 division winners, match them up and that leaves you with 3 teams. and then what happens? Triple threat match for the cup? first pin fall wins or elimination style?

After the 3v6 and 4v5 matchups, there would be 4 teams left in each division so it would play just like the normal 16-team playoffs at that point. I think you might be thinking of the old alignment?

Here's what I'd like to see happen to compensate for screwing the Rangers out of playoffs (from least realistic to most realistic):
1. Draft order goes in order of win percentage
2. Lottery for first pick only (give worst teams a chance to draft Lafrienere before rewarding the better teams), then draft order goes by win percentage
3. Lottery for first three picks, lottery odds determined by win percentage.
4. Lottery for first three picks, everyone gets same odds.
5. Lottery for first three picks, worst teams get better odds

I know, I'm just bored and day dreaming/spitballing. The Rangers AND the league lose out on money by not having them in.

Honestly, the top 7 of the draft will most likely be some combination of :

Lafreniere
Byfield
Stutzle
Drysdale
Rossi
Perfetti
Holtz/Raymond

To be 100% guaranteed one of these players................I take that deal gladly and run.

Although to be fair, the Rangers would probably end up selecting Lundell/Holloway or Amirov at 7 and this board would have a MELTDOWN.

I get being in the top 7 would be great but if that's the scenario the Rangers should pitch a major bitch anyway--make it plain that we're sick and tired of being the league's red headed stepchild that they conveniently find ways of excluding. If nothing else make sure that those teams who ended up with less points but a playoff spot aren't lottery teams.

I think there's basically no chance that they'll settle on a playoff format that excludes us but includes teams 10 points back. There would be some sort of wildcard.

But if they do, there's no way the teams that are excluded aren't given the top 7 lottery slots.
