I saw a video on TSN and one of the guys said there was one GM who wanted a one game series to see who got into the playoffs. Anyone want to take the odds of that one GM being Shrek Lamoriello? Islanders always being the "November Cup" champs.

I'm seriously wondering if he has Parkinson's or something like it. I'm not saying it as a put down. He really looks like he has it.

Parkinson's is probably a better explanation than what I was thinking of. He reminded me so much of my grandpa who suffered from Motor-neuron disease. But that's much more radical and would really have shown worse effects over time

Bettman has always spoke with a bobbin doll head. Doubt and hope it’s not some neurological disorder. He’s been on video speaking like this since 1990 and it’s usually only when he speaks. His head is still when listening.

Kinda interesting... obviously the draft is a crap shoot to a certain degree, but the Rangers have taken quite a few goaltenders with premium picks who turned out to be nothing. Then, they’ve hit on HL in the 7th, Shestyorkin in the 4th, Talbot/Georgiev were undrafted, and Raanta came at a low cost. It really does make you think twice about snagging goalies in the first two rounds. I’d need to be REALLY confident a kid is can’t miss to take him in the first 50 or so picks.

New York City is the only market that has ever had three teams in the same major league in any sport at one time.

From 1903-57, it was in Major League Baseball. Manhattan had the Giants, Brooklyn had the Dodgers, and the Bronx had the Yankees. Only the Yankees are still in NYC, the NL currently has the Mets in Queens, but someday in the future I could see Brooklyn getting its own MLB team again (but other markets would have to get teams first especially if we're gonna realign MLB into 8 divisions of four teams each that all make geographic sense, and if Brooklyn does get another MLB team it would have to be in the NL for tradition's sake).

NYC currently has three NHL teams. The Rangers have always been the top team in the five boroughs, and the northern suburbs in NY and CT. The Islanders main fan base has been suburban Long Island. The Devils primarily have their fans on the New Jersey side of the metro area.

The three NYC area teams have always shared a division and thus played each other multiple teams a year (in contrast, the Yankees could only play the Dodgers or Giants in the World Series for many years, and regular season games between the Yankees and Mets did not arrive until 1997).

Thus, you could say Devils-Islanders-Rangers is a huge three-way rivalry.

But the Islanders and Devils don’t dislike each other.

OMG please tell me you're joking. If baseball starts up I'll be PISSED

Idk how to answer.

I see all of this as the first (small) wave considering the virus. The league will want to start the 20-21 season and by November December we'll be back on quarantine for the second wave.

And again, it really doesn't help that our sport is played in a giant freezer, preferably in winter ...

I don't get the need for any one-game play ins or anything like that from that GM they were talking about on TSN. It's not like the NHL didn't already play a very significant portion of its season already. Most teams are at 68-70 games played. If you weren't good enough to qualify for the playoffs after 85% of the season, then you don't get in. Seems fair to me.

Also I agree with the comments from the GMs in that article about having the draft in June--seems like a lot of work for very little gain. Just wait until the season is over
