If Shesterkin doesn’t get in that accident we make the playoffs. It’s just another NYR story of what ifs you can’t make up if you tried.

Carolina lost both of their roster goalies in a span of 25 minutes and CBJ has been ravaged by injuries.

The what ifs don't only apply to the Rangers, unless you're asking what if the Rangers dont lose to a shit Devils team on the tail end of b2b's.

In the short term it sucks, but it will benefit us in the long run. Either with invaluable game experience for our young guys or a high draft pick....or both.

I don’t think billionaires would cancel millions of dollars worth of revenue if it were “overhyped” lmao
It is definitely overhyped! We’ve already had a corona virus outbreak, you may remember it... SARS? In 2009, H1N1 (swine flu) killed over 12,500 people in the US alone, but I bet you don’t remember that... I wonder why?

P.S. the flu kills 33,000 people every year in the US, if the media “hyped” that the way they are this, no one would leave their homes.

I remember that swine flu like it was yesterday lol

We want Canucks to miss the playoffs right?
Why would the NYR want the Canucks to miss the playoffs this year?

6 reasons why it would be disastrous for the Canucks to miss the playoffs this season - Vancouver Is Awesome
4 | Missing the playoffs means next year’s first-round draft pick isn’t lottery protected
Here’s a big one: the first-round pick that the Canucks sent to the Tampa Bay Lightning for J.T. Miller —which they then traded to the New Jersey Devils — is a conditional pick. If the Canucks make the playoffs, the Devils get the 2020 pick; if they miss the playoffs, the Devils get the 2021 pick.
On the one hand, getting a first-round pick in what is expected to be a deep 2020 draft isn’t the worst consolation prize for missing the playoffs. On the other hand, the 2021 pick has no lottery protections, which means it could wind up being the first-overall pick — the first in Canucks history — and it will go to the Devils.
That’s a worst-case scenario, but it’s also one that’s terrifyingly realistic. It’s easy to imagine the Canucks having worse injury luck next season and sliding down the standings but with no first-round pick to console them, much like what is currently occurring with the San Jose Sharks, whose first-round pick belongs to the Ottawa Senators.

Easy to say this when you've not been personally effected. I wonder how many people from Hubei, or South Korea or Northern Italy think it's over-hyped.

People have been saying since the end of January that this thing was over hyped.

The Italian PM quarantined the entire country. You have professional teams all over the world cancelling events or playing in front of empty stadiums and the same is now beginning to happen in the US. Why? The infection rate of COVID-19 is significantly higher than that of H1N1 or even the normal flu.

The "flu" statistic is horribly misleading. If the same number of people who have the flu were to contract COVID-19, the death rates would be 5-10x higher - some scientists said the mortality rate of COVID-19 is up to 1900% greater than the flu.

I wouldn't be shocked if this soon impacted all NY sports teams.

the team isn't making this decision though...it was government officials, santa clara county is banning all gathering of 1000 or more people. the sharks will probably play the games with no fans.

That what panic and hysteria creates. It's there already. The eldery are still the most at risk and it's easily transmitted because there's no symptoms for many.

Anecdotally, a majority of people who've had it, deal with a fever for 8-12 hours and then a cough. It's definitely dangerous for people with impaired immune/respiratory systems.

This is not Ebola. People fear what they dont understand. The number infected is probably astronomically higher. There's limited testing and since the symptoms vary greatly, a person could just consider it a 'cold'. That 'cold' could then turn deadly for the aforementioned elderly/immune impaired.

15 of the 21 dead in Washington all come from the same Nursing home.

edit- the bolded is misleading. We do not know how many are infected. We know the severe cases. There's limited testing. There's no 'accurate' mortality rate.

Unless its changed.... weird thing to add, no children, under 9, have been 'affected/infected'

It's a flu. Most people is going to have a few bad days from it. A few will be really sick, and some of them will die. It is not a nightmare sickness like Ebola.
But it is the scale of it that is the gamechanger. It does have a very long incubation period, and its very easily transmitted. Personally I don't thin the quarantines will work
to stop the spreading. What they hopefully does is slow it down. so the number of really sick people will not overstress the medical structure. If 3 out of a 100 persons get so sick they need to be put into the hospital, all hell will break loose in a city of New Yorks size if everyone gets sick at the same time. The more infected that get well and get out of the hospital before the next ones move in will really help keep everything under controll. Here in Norway most major sport happenings are without spectators now.

A global virus pandemic have been a danger for several years. The swine flu-was nasty, but got contained. This Corona outbreak will set all those plans that have been collecting dust in the archives off. I will be an extremly valuable case-study when planning for a worst case scenario in todays society of global travel.

92,567 Seasonal flu deaths this year
Quick facts:
  • Every year an estimated 290,000 to 650,000 people die in the world due to complications from seasonal influenza (flu) viruses.
  • This figure corresponds to 795 to 1,781 deaths per day due to the seasonal flu.

257,182 Road traffic accident fatalities this year

road traffic fatalities are forecast to rise from the current level of nearly 1.3 million deaths annually to more than 1.9 million deaths per year by 2020.

are we going to stop driving?

If you put anything 'bad' under a massive microscope, it could create a frenzy. It's still a danger but not to the current magnitude IMO

Anyone see any of the Tampa Boston game the other night?
Watched the extended highlights. Wow. You can see Tampa is trying to definitely be a team that doesn’t wanna back down to the likes of Boston. Had to be 4-5 brawls during the game
