Good move for the Devils. I feel like this their bread and butter. 2nd and 3rd for a top 6 winger on a cash-strapped team. The upsides of having a terrible roster for a long time, you have a lot of cap space.

I have to say, I think the devils have had one of the best, arguably the best, offseason of all the teams in the league. Of course, the games are still played on the ice, but I like their stuff.

I had a strong feeling Jersey was getting Gusev after Shero declared that the Devils were "not done" dealing. Gusev made the most sense for Jersey to pursue as a cost effective potentially high impact player that could be acquired for relatively little.

I dunno. Maybe I am wrong but I remember Hunwick being a decent possession player.

On a side note, with all the talk about prospect pools lately... am I the only one who doesn't understand the love fest with Nick Suzuki. I see many writers talk about him like he is going to be a can't miss stud prospect. I don't think he is going to be anything special and I think people are both seriously overrating the Habs prospect pool and team overall.

Imagine if you were pleb HF poster who only looks at stats and you had a prospect on your team whose production in his last 3 seasons in juniors was 96, 100, and 94 points, with his last playoff performance producing 42 points in 28 playoff games. Would you not get hyped about that?

Hard to say. They added nice names but they all have some sketchiness about them. That's true of most teams' adds to an extent but there's are pretty heavy with it.

Is Subban declining heavily or just had a bad year? Is Simmonds cooked or can he rebound? Is Gusev an NHL player worth that money? Will Hughes' size be an issue at all or will he jump right in and rise above it?

And behind all of that, is Hall going to re-sign or did they do all of this just to have him walk? If he walks of course and the questions above are answered negatively, they're in a very tight spot quickly.

The contracts they have handed out or acquired are short term though. I like their moves
