The signing was officially announced on March 8th.

Even if he signed the contract on February 25th (which there was some reason he couldn't... has to be on reserve list for 10 days to get the 8-year contract, maybe?) that still wouldn't be a sign-and-trade. The extension was with Vegas.

You only see sign-and-trades when the team trading away the player can do something the acquiring team cannot. In the case of the NHL, it pretty much never happens, since the only thing that could happen is the 8 year contract. Few teams are willing to pay much for that one extra year of a player they could have for nothing a week or 2 later. Ottawa did it with Hossa, as @Thirty One mentioned, but I honestly have no idea why and I can't think of another example.
 
Boston celebrating losing the cup is more pathetic than the Pred’s “banner raising” ceremony. Christ is that embarrassing.
