It’s absolutely remarkable that a 7th overall pick that was praised for his two way ability, leadership and work ethic can’t even crack it as a mediocre grinder in the NHL.

Gordie Clark was so f***ing bad at his job it’s almost impressive.
Clark was good to very good up until 2014, really 2013. The later is because of Igor only. He got close to a Cup a few times mostly with players he found. The issue is the three misses he made (Giroux, John Carlson, Tarasenko) were all catastrophic.

Been watching some preseason games from around the league, a nice reminder that hockey can in fact be entertaining.

The games are terrible. NHL preseason is a rip off. The veteran players are basically coasting and not exerting any energy. Career AHL players play in the early games. Some teams play too many games. 6 games is too many. Some teams play more than 6. The players report to camp and are playing games 2-3 days later. The teams play 6-7 games in 14 days.

Agree. Preseason games shouldn't be a thing. Just have camp, push the players, work on systems.

Dahlin 8x11...how in the hell could their GM not get him signed for Fox or Makar money...what a massive fail.

You need games to get players in game shape. Practice is not enough. 6 games is more than enough, some teams played 8 preseason games this year, which was crazy.

I'd argue that there's too many players that will never make the team at camp and they end up eating game time from players that will. Imo, you go through camp, trim your roster from the pretenders and then have 4 preseason games to figure out the bubble guys.

Easy.... Makar becomes a UFA at 28.
Fox becomes a UFA at 30.
Dahlin becomes a UFA at 31.... oh... and Dahlin has zero NMC/NTC's... Just imagine that... being able to build a team without handcuffing yourself with 30+ year olds with NMC/NTC's...

This board... i don't get it.

Some good players on waivers. From a talent perspective the league could likely support another team right now. In a few years it will be crazy. The pool of players is always growing. Perhaps they really will expand to 36 teams. 6 divisions of 6. Top 2 in each make playoffs with 2 wildcards.

Of course our division would be crazy.

Fox and Makar signed long-term deals after their ELCs. Dahlin went ELC to bridge deal to long-term deal. There's a big difference. If, as a team, you go with a bridge deal, you know you will have to pay top dollar on the long-term deal.

Both Miller and Buch showed promise. You watched them play and it was obvious there was still untapped potential.

Laf is what he is.
Giving Miller away for nothing and watching him turn into a 90 point center, giving Buch away for nothing and watching him become a 70 point winger.

And people want to give away Lafreniere before he puts it together.

Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me... fool me three times...
I guess you have to lump Tampa in that too since they also gave up Miller for nothing......oh, thats right....forget Tampa....its was just on the Rangers. Incredible analysis.

Dahlin earned every cent of that contract. Why should he take less? Going to be some decisions to make there in 2 or 3 years but they're ready to make the playoffs now.

I've gone from rooting against other teams in this thread over the years to now just wanting to see every other teams' young players get trouba'd into the sun. My patience for life is wearing thin. Dahlin is a good choice. f*** his face and his acne.

What the hell is Winnipeg doing?
Getting people to sign there is the highest degree of difficulty in the league.

I'd say they got zero good offers for their goalie and didn't really care about the likely pu-pu platter of a 1st and a B prospect for Scheifele. Gotta spend the money on someone.

Lots and lots of teams would sign up right now for 7 years of playoffs and 0 years of contention. This is a business, not a SIM league.

According to Capfriendly Dahlin has a full NMC every year except the first one.

Based on cap projections for from next season, his contract will about 12.5% of the cap. Fox's was around 11.6% when he signed, knowing that the cap would be flat for a while, so they are pretty comparable.

The 2 Winnipeg signings seem a bit crazy, but I also understand they can have a hard time keeping players

The Jets were a borderline playoff team with those guys; they decided to continue to be a borderline playoff team for the next 7 years... Lol

Canadian markets can't win cus they need to monetize and their rabid fan base guarantees profits as long as they make win now moves even if it results in sucking long twrm. Van, wpg, cgy all there. EDM too before McDai.

That gives me hope Panarin can be moved before he becomes completely stationary.

Teams didn't want to pay Hellebuyck. Winnipeg couldn't move him. Hellebuyck realized his best deal was in Winnipeg. Scheifele was offered seven years. Winnipeg could never bring themselves to trade him. We don't have to hear about those trade rumors anymore. Calgary is trying to re-sign Lindholm($9M), Hanifan and Tanev. They re-signed Backlund.

Oh, I know LOL Good for the Jets to get those two signed; it's been nearly impossible to get players to sign there long term.

I was being somewhat facetious earlier; was thinking of the recent playoff success, or lack thereof and the possible rumours of what's gone on in the dressing room (supposedly) in recent years. The Rangers signed one of the players who were in that room at that time. It was a question as to what direction the organization would go; either go all in or blow it up and do a full rebuild. They're having attendance issues, so blowing it up for a rebuild may not have been a palatable option. Also, as has been mentioned earlier in the thread, I gather the trade offers for those two were less than appealing.

They should be competitive, if not a top end contender in the Western Conference for the next couple years, until Schieffele/Hellebuyck ask for trades again.

Nah Makar should have been an easy comparable to say, hey kid we like you but the best dman in the league is making 9 mill. Should have been a slam dunk at 9-9.5.
