No, but it's astounding to think back and remember what happened on his watch.

Buchnevich/Igor car accident

Panarin almost becoming a vegetable via Tom Wilson

DeAngelo vs. Georgiev

Keeping Georgiev in the first place and making a club legend feel like an afterthought.

Hiring David Quinn and subsequent Gallant hire that was a bad fit

I can go on....

Gallant happened after him.

But the lias shit, the Deangelo shit, Quinn, etc - all of this happened when he came here. Hank buyout as well (which apparently really pissed Dolan off.)

I’d throw Kravtsov in there as well but he was a f*** stick on his own.

Right, Quinn got his walking papers a few weeks after JD and Gorton, my bad.

Totally forgot about the handling of Lias and Kravtsov. The players were both dipsticks, but ultimately he and Gorton signed off on the picks.

JD got fired because he put his status with his hockey buddies in the league above the team when Dolan actually had a f***ing point about Wilson being a menace the league refused to handle.

Definition of a country club guy. Shit lead executive. Probably has good value as a liason or a commentator.

I think Lias was a fine pick and will go to the mat for it. Tons of guys are not NHL skaters at 18. Guys are dumbasses too. Most grow out. Unlucky.

Id take his profile over Middlestadt who was always going to be a soft empty calories guy or a Rasmussen who was always gonna be a 40 point max stiff who was tall. Or Vilardi who had back problems and couldnt skate well enough to play center either (and still can't). Just a bad first round that year after pick 5.

Hindsight is always funny, but Necas or Suzuki were my picks as soon as I found out the Rangers acquired the pick.

This Babcock/Columbus thing is absolutely hilarious. Good god.
There were people in the Rangers organization who were intrigued by Babcock. There were people here who liked Babcock as the Rangers coach. Babcock preferred resuming his coaching career in a quieter place. In the end, some people in the Rangers organization realized it was a bad idea.

Bettman hasn't even reinstalled Queeneville and Bowman yet. I remember the media had Queeneville behind the Rangers bench the day after the Rangers season was over.

More bad ideas.

I think the Kravtsov pick was a lot more egregious because we didn't have SO much young talent we could go boom/bust at 9 with lickity lock #2/#3 defenseman for a decade Noah Dobson staring us in the face.

I don't remember it that way. Dobson was considered a safe bottom pairing, maybe top 4 if everything went right. And he got there to exactly that.

They also had two more 1st rounders. They could afford to take a swing on a potential 1st line talent and go safer with the picks in the 20's.

I'm right sometimes but wrong a lot too. Wahlstrom was my first choice at 9 followed by Farabee. Dobson a distant 3rd.

Wanted Domink Bokk with the Miller pick too. Could have sworn the Rangers were trading up for him not believing he was still there. Whoops.

Why did they even hire Babcock? Personnel management is a huge part if being a head coach and this was a guy who had shown it didn't know how to do it in the modern age.

Surely there's enough coaches around that you don't have to keep going back to the dinosaurs?

Most organizations cycle through contention and rebuild whereas Columbus cycles through borderline playoff team to Mickey mouse organization every 10 years.

NHL head coaches: I'm gonna need you guys to commit to fitness, hustle and defense.

Babcock: I'm gonna need your phone, your deepest secret, your biggest fear, your Internet search history, and what you hate most about each teammate. You know, just normal getting to know you stuff. Also I'm gonna broadcast in front of everyone.

does he still get paid is the question. They probably told him they'd be able to fire him with cause after the investigation but I think he could fight the pay dispute even if he was fired on overstepping the bounds of privacy. I don't think this is egregious enough from a labor dispute stand point for him to forfeit his pay if it came to arbitration.

Boone "I did not have privacy invasion relations with that man, Mike Babcock" Jenner.

Total clown show they had the GM and captain try to sweep this under the rug at first. Maybe they didn't realize the younger players had a much more uncomfortable time with it but they should have investigated first then spoke later. It shows how little the young players in that franchise can rely on their management and even locker room "leaders". This wouldn't be reactionary canning of JD and Jarmo. They've sucked through and through. No leadership.

Whoever hired Babcock in the first place should be the next people to go. Did they not know his history? Thank goodness the Rangers had no interest in hiring him to replace Gallant.

John Davidson was a great broadcaster but is a crappy hockey executive. I wouldn't have him run my team.
I feel like JD is a very nice man. I don’t know him from Adam but that’s my sense. Being a very nice man doesn’t help in this particular job tho. In fact, it’s probably a hindrance. I don’t think he’s a good judge of character.
