I want what I want
1 point up on Dallas for the President's Trophy with 3 games to go for each team. Dallas has all home games remaining vs WPG, SEA, STL. Jets are still fighting for home ice with Colorado and hopefully will give them a tough game. SEA and STL with nothing to play for.

We control our own destiny here but probably will need to win out to lock it up.
Not really the important one compared to the determination of seeding: Rangers are 3 points up on both BOS and CAR with 3 games remaining for all. They hold the tie-breaker on BOS if they finished tied in points but would likely lose the tie-breaker against the Canes if they make up the points.

They also could conceivable be passed by the Panthers if the Rangers don't earn another point and Panthers win out in regulation.

(Note the first tiebreaker is Regulation Wins - RW)

It's not about ignoring Houston, Utah has an owner ready to take on a team right now. Houston doesn't.
Not so fast. Tillman Fertitta could buy and sell Ryan Smith. What Tillman doesn’t have is the same passion for hockey but rather he’s viewing the business proposition. Tillman is very measured (I used to work with his organization)

I’ve heard Utah is also a nice place to retire.
How does your wife feel about an extra two, three sets of hand around the house?
I think it compulsory?

Utah is very nice. Been there many times. But as long as they don’t take away ESPN+ I’ll be just fine.

The Rangers just need to win 2/3 and they lock up #1 regardless of what Carolina or Boston do. No excuse for it - Philly, Islanders, Ottawa.

It's all about not facing TBL - wc1 - in the first round. Accordingly I just don't want Boston overtaking us in the race for the tops in the East.

If the Rangers win tonight, that should wrap up the East. Up 3 points with 2 games left over Carolina and Boston is pretty much game over.

Now if the goal is a Presidents Trophy, then what they really need is a Dallas loss and a Rangers win tonight, widening their gap to 3 points with 2 games left as well.

With a win tonight, the Rangers would own the tie breaker with all (3) teams I believe a well as their ROW number would be 54. Max for Carolina would be 53, max for Boston would be 49 and max for Dallas would be 52, assuming they lose tonight).

So basically I think we are rooting for:
Rangers (duh)
Jets over Dallas
Washington
Detroit (beating PIT in regulation)

If we go 1-1-1, don't we also get 1 overall or are there weird tiebreakers besides wins?

It depends...So if Rangers get three points in the way you mentioned, it gives them 113 with 43 RWs. If Carolina wins their last three games in regulation, they also have 113 points but end up with 45 RWs. Carolina would then win the tie-breaker.

NHL Tiebreaker rules:

Tie-Breaking Procedure

If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:

1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).

2. The greater number of games won, excluding games won in Overtime or by Shootout (i.e., 'Regulation Wins'). This figure is reflected in the RW column.

3. The greater number of games won, excluding games won by Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column.

4. The greater number of games won by the Club in any manner (i.e., 'Total Wins'). This figure is reflected in the W column.

5. The greater number of points earned in games against each other among two or more tied clubs.

  • For the purpose of determining standing for two or more Clubs that have not played an even number of games with one or more of the other tied Clubs, the first game played in the city that has the extra game (the 'odd game') shall not be included.
  • When more than two Clubs are tied, the percentage of available points earned in games among each other (and not including any 'odd games') shall be used to determine standing.
6. The greater differential between goals for and against (including goals scored in Overtime or awarded for prevailing in Shootouts) for the entire regular season. This figure is reflected in the DIFF column.

7. The greater number of goals scored (including goals scored in Overtime or awarded for prevailing in Shootouts) for the entire regular season. This figure is reflected in the GF column.

NOTE: In standings, a victory in a shootout counts as one goal for, while a shootout loss counts as one goal against.

A point earned tonight "eliminates" the Panthers from the convo for first in east. Three points earned in any way would eliminate Boston. The issue is the Canes. If the Canes win out and depending on how they do so, even if the Rangers accrue three points there are multiple tie-breakers that would go the Canes way.

Tie-breaker number five is the weird one up there. My reading of it is for the Rangers-Canes, they'd have one win a piece against each other as the Rangers first win against them at MSG "wouldn't count".

Yes, but if the Rangers win tonight, they will sit at 54 wins. Even if Carolina wins out, they will be at 53 wins. So basically the Rangers win one game, hopefully tonight, and get 1 point in their next 2 games and they are guaranteed 1st in the East. Or if Carolina and Boston lose 1 point over that same timeframe, coupled with a Rangers win tonight, and they are 1st in the East

Overall wins are the 3rd tie-breaker. RW wins come before W. Carolina would have the edge in RW so the 54 wins would not play into it.

Noah Hanifin just signed for a little less than what trouba makes... he has 4 less points in 4 less career games 😆

Devs can't even say jack had shoulder surgery without verbally massaging his entire family, representatives, agent, and his brothers Quinn and Luke and their father's pastor from 1987. I've never seen a medical tweet tweeted like that.
What tweet?

With Mark Stone on cap, you'd have to imagine VGK let everyone one of their UFAs walk to get under cap. Marchessault, Mantha, Stephenson, Amadio, Martinez. They will make it work with a few league minimum contracts. What a wild roster overhaul it'll be for them.

I Fing hate the Piles but give them credit for winning 6 in a row to put themselves in good position. Rangers better wake up next 2 games. That was brutal tonight.
